I'm interested in participating, but with only two weeks I'm not sure I would be able to finish a decent looking map in that time frame. The ones I've made for mt Balance of Power timeline have taken me forever! :-) Fair enough. Depending on how long it takes for other possible participants to submit their maps, I might extend it by a week or two. Which topic do you like?

I guess either the Golden age, or the domino effect, but I'm not terribly committed either way. And that's another thing - I'm the type of person who needs to let something stew on the back burner which adds to my slowness on creative projects. My Muse is slow-cooker pulled pork, not a fast-fry steak. :-)

Well then, it sounds like Golden Age will be our topic this time around. In about 2 hours, I'll post the thread, thus officially beginning the round (but let's be honest, I can't exactly stop you guys from starting right now)

My Muse is slow-cooker pulled pork, not a fast-fry steak. :-) I know that feeling. That's a bad habit I've slipped into over the years - I've tried to enter the MotF or started making a map and never finished a bunch of times. I'm trying to be more active, but maps are really not my priority right now. Well then, it sounds like Golden Age will be our topic this time around. In about 2 hours, I'll post the thread, thus officially beginning the round (but let's be honest, I can't exactly stop you guys from starting right now) When I ran the contest it was a semi-official rule that you could start early if the challenge was announced ahead of time. There was only an issue if you made maps pre-emptively in case a given challenge was chosen (which, as far as I know, never happened), or if you submitted a map that you'd already made and posted not for the contest (which, as far as I remember, only happened once). I'm gonna see if I can't get something done for this challenge, though I won't be starting in the next two hours (aside from research and brainstorming ).

I'm probably going to attempt to do something for this contest myself, yet another entry into the World Born at Tilsit (you know, because having 2 other entries into the MotF based on that timeline weren't enough already!)

Awesome! I posted a link in the cartography-related chatrooms I'm in - hopefully you'll get a few more entries from that.

Question brought up about the Golden Age: "Can states or sub-national entities be included?" (may be paraphrasing). Conclusion: No they can't. It has to be a national entity or a collection of national entities, as long as they're culturally similar, thanks to the use of the term "civilization." For example, the multiple city-states of Greece in 500BC would be eligible.
Theoretic counter-conclusion (yes, I am debating with myself here): If, say, the Greek Civilization were to prosper greatly under the Persian empire, I suppose that technically could work, as long as it's not blatantly ASB.

The difficulty for me now is trying to think of a unique spin on such a broad topic. Hmm... so what about an interconnected diaspora or cultural/political movement? Something that is in no way a state but is instead an influential organization or movement, or series of interconnected ones, which exert a great deal of influence on the rest of the world?

Probably about a third of the way through my own map!

Does the map need to have internal divisions?

Does the map need to have internal divisions? nope. Good ahead and have them, or don't if you don't want to.

A week in, three submissions so far. Pretty descent for the return of the MotF. Who else is planning on submitting? Anyways, since we have a week left, let's start discussing other topic ideas. These are just a couple of examples. If you wish to check out more possible topics, please check here or feel free to come up with your own topic ideas

Of those four I think I like Domino Effect the most, but they'd all be good.
Here's an idea I had recently based on a bad pun, and inspired by my current MotF entry (which is still in-progress):

So, just as a reminder, as of right now there's 2 days left for MotF: Golden Age, if that. Anybody close to done but need an extension?

I'll have mine done either tonight or sometime tomorrow. I was tempted not to enter but I figure I can throw something together to make up for my lack of progress. I doubt it'll compete with MN or Krall, but sure may as well

And any last minute requests for topic of choice? Otherwise, Domino Effect is a go.
