With Sid Meier's Civilization VI coming this October, it'd probably be nice to make a thread for Civilization. The first discussion I'd like to bring up is to look at the evidence we have from the screenshot so far and what they've told us (copy-and-pasting from franchise.civilization.com) So cities can take up multiple tiles now? Interesting, I'd like to see how that's implemented Almost sounds like they're taking a page out of Stellaris's book. Good for them. This should be fun. I'll wait and see how this turns out Seems like a nice balance between the death stacks and death blobs of Civ IV and V respectively. The rest can be ignored for now. Screenshots! Lets see how much we can get out of this screenshot: 1: It looks really cartoony, like they're going back to the Civ IV and Civ Rev style. Probably for the best, as the advanced graphics of V just makes my computer want to explode (although hopefully there will be a 'strategic mode' like Civ V as well). 2: Still using the hex map, that makes me happy. 3: Cliffs! Looks like you can't just jump into the water at any ol' point! A feature I didn't even know I wanted out of this game! 4: everything else looks about the same unless we got to see the mechanics. I've seen 2 other screenshots, but it doesn't look like they provide much more

It looks like wonders are built on a specific tile now, instead of just being in the city. Not sure I like the change in aethetic style though - I really loved the way Civ V looked.

Oh, I hadn't even thought of the wonders being build on specific tiles, that's interesting. I wonder if that means they have some sort of tile production bonus now, or maybe they give a bonus to adjacent tiles? I guess we'll see, though I kinda doubt I'll play this game - I think I'm all civved-out from Civ V.

This would be cool to see...though I do still love the flexibility of Civ II, and the soundtrack and voices of Civ IV.

Teddy lead America! franchise.civilization.com/en/news/2016-05-theodore-roosevelt-leads-the-americans-in-civilization-vi/Looks like civs are going to have 3 Unique units/ Unique buildings. For America they are the Mustang Air Fighters, the Rough Riders, and the Film Studio. They haven't said what they do. They also haven't said what the American Unique Ability is, but it sounds like the name of it is going to be "Square Deal" Looks like for the leader models they're trying to go for an in between, between Civ IV where it was more cartoony, and Civ V where they were pretty realistic. Looks like they're doing a slightly cartoony charactercher

They've done Lincoln (I think 1-Rev was Lincoln), Washington (5), Kennedy (Rev 2, along with Lincoln), and now Roosevelt I. I can't agree more with the choice, honestly I believe Roosevelt should have been the leader since the beginning, as he represents American power more than any other president, in my opinion. You can argue that Lincoln and Washington were better presidents, but Teddy I think represents American Power

www.idigitaltimes.com/civ-6-new-civilization-game-features-big-changes-warfare-diplomacy-and-even-victory-535457This article expands on the futures explained at the beginning of this thread. Cities can span multiple tiles- Imagine what it was like in Civ V, except that you can clearly see it's part of the expansive city. At least that's what I'm getting from it Active Research- Remember what I said about taking a page from Stellaris? Sounds like that's exactly what they're doing. Sometimes you'll run into things that will give you a boost to a given technology, depending on what it is. Dynamic Diplomacy- At the beginning of the game, empires will naturally want to fight each other, there's basically no peace button (although I'm guessing empires won't actively pursue each other). Over time, the way you conduct diplomacy changes. If they pull this off, it will change strategy games. They're removing a victory condition, replacing it with another. The most likely to be removed is either Cultural or Diplomatic, and I imagine they're putting Economic in. I can't really say though. There's also now civilization-specific wonders (the example they used was that this: the Great Wall, the Colosseum, the Forbidden City, and the Pyramids. Two of these are civilization-specific, only 1 Civ has the capacity to build it, the other two are world-wonders, any Civ had the capacity to build it). I'm not sure how much I like this change... Aesthetically, they're changing how the fog of war looks. Any tiles you've already explored but can't currently see are projected more like a traditional map. Should be interesting to see.

This is my favorite screenshot so far. It shows off most of the art style in this game, and presents what units are going to look like. venturebeat.com/2016/05/25/hands-on-with-civilization-vi-this-is-a-very-different-game/This article better explains what Cities can span multiple tiles really means. It's not just building a mine on a hill, it's building a whole other miniature city that you place buildings in. Each city-tile can only hold so many buildings, so you have to specialize each mini-city, having a military district, science district, cultural district, so on. Also, what you build are also affected by surrounding tiles (one example given was that if you build a science district next to a mountain, it gives you a better chance of discovering astronomy). They best explained this as a 'city' is actually closer now to a province capital with all the towns surrounding it. This is also (intentionally) limiting. If you build one of these mini-cities, you can't build there, say, a world wonder or a mini-city of a different specialty. (yes, world wonders take up their own tile) Looks like building units take faster to do (they mention scouts take 1 turn to build from the very beginning, and I can imagine that building basic warriors shouldn't take much more). Barbarians and the AI in general are supposedly smarter and, for Barbarians, more dangerous. I'd like to see a lets-play or play if for myself before I say more. Speaking of AI, the AI civilizations have their own over-arching agenda throughout the game. They provided two examples of an agenda: Manifest Destiny (which I can only assume is to conquer anything next to you) and something about wanting to build lots and lots of wonders and being aggressive to anyone who builds a similar amount of wonders. It also sounds like the AI also have a separate personality, like Teddy's Talk Softly but Carry a Big Stick (cautious to anyone potentially being threatening, will defend any land that they consider theirs).

New best screenshot: edit: well, they removed the screenshot. I guess it showed to much... Too bad for them, I've already seen it, whuhahaha! You can still see edited down version on the Civ VI news on city-states and envoys Man, that all looks great. We got the UI, we got the fog-of-war graphics, we get a look into city states, this is great. Let's tear this thing apart. UI: On the top left corner we see the basic resources return: Science, Culture (assumingly), Faith, and of course Gold. To the immediate right of the gold we see a trade route counter and something else I can't quite determine. It looks like something to do with resources, maybe instead of spreading it out across the screen they have it condensed into one list (like in Stellaris, lot of Stellaris comparisons). Below the resources it looks like we have a couple of menus, looks like Science, Culture (policies likely), government, diplomacy (?) something to do with leaders (?) and another culture (probably the great works, like in Civ V: Brave New World). I have no idea what that "world tracker" is, maybe it's the tech being researched? To the top right we see the turns and, little bit oddly, the time (should be easier now to not stay up all night!). Each turn, at least on this specific speed, whatever it is, goes 40 years per turn for the first couple turns. We have the map at the bottom left, with a search tool, a... uh, something-or-another, I don't know, some sort of pin drop item, and it looks like a strategic mode map-mode. Yay! Map itself: Krall did say that he didn't like the aesthetics. Well, I think we can see why they went that style, at least for the map: Smoother transition into a more historic looking map. I find this great, I wonder if the map will change to fit era, like here we have a more ancient era/ medieval look, but maybe around the Renaissance it could change to look like a map from the 18th century, and starting in the modern era it grows even more realistic? The city-state mechanics: Boy did this look like it good a pretty good makeover. Now instead of buying out their influence with wealth or by doing chores for them, it looks like you send envoys to them to increase influence with them. These envoys probably still cost money, but I'm willing to bet it's more 1: a monthly decrease in how much money you're making (maybe like -1 a turn), and 2: the real cost will be time. I'm willing to bet it's going to take a while to get influence over a city state. It's either that, or you have a limited amount of envoys you can build, which could be the case. Either way the rewards sure look like they're going to be worth it, with 4 separate levels of how much they'll give you. In the case with Jerusalem, you start out with 1 envoy giving you +2 faith in the capital, and quickly goes up from there, with an additional +2 than +4 in every holy site district. Finally, when you're the diplomatic suzarain (which I imagine is the same across all city states), the city-state will do the same city-state stuff it'd do as an ally in Civ V, but now you can buy out their military for a couple turns! You can also conquer the city state for a special bonus, with Jerusalem you can conquer it and it'll automatically convert to your religion and exert religious influence equal to a holy city! No wonder those Muslims, Christians, Jews are fighting so hard over the city! I assume that bonus is unique specifically to Jerusalem, I imagine Wittenburg would have a different bonus. Now let's go check the Civ VI website to see what I got right and what I got wrong franchise.civilization.com/en/news/2016-06-civilization-vi-envoys-and-city-states/Envoys sound like they are more like units you can build and send to city states, interesting. Also sounds like city states can go to war with each other completely independently of the major civilizations. Also: Science and Gold city states! Another good screenshot (you can find a bigger version at the Civ website):

New video! First video game play reveal (that I know of):
Sadly, we're brought back down to 18 civilizations (as opposed to the, what, 32 civilizations that Civ V eventually had?), of those, we know of China, America, Egypt, and Japan. I can imagine that France and Russia are still there, likely England (or maybe replaced with Britain, perhaps?), India (we need someone to nuke the world), and of course Rome (I think they kinda accidentally confirmed it). The next nine are anyone's guesses (my guesses: Germany, Spain, Aztecs, Mongols, Ottomans, Mali, Inca, Greeks, Arabia).
Some fans have speculated that Qin Shin Huang, the first emperor of China, leads China now (how many leaders have they gone through now? I know Mao, the Tang Empress (whose name I don't remember), and now Qin Shin Huang).
I'm not a big fan of Cleopatra, I don't believe she the best that can be representation of Egypt (unlike Ramses). I understand she's probably the most famous, but I think she's the greatest ruler of Egypt (or even one of the better ones). I will admit though, I do love the expressions they gave her, absolutely lovely.
Fans have put together an entire list of what's been revealed so far: https://www.reddit.com/r/civ/comments/4ivi8k/megathread_civilization_vi_info_and_articles/

List of civs I'd like to see in Civ VI that weren't added in Civ V (also list of Civs that I thought should have been in Civ V before Venice): Bulgaria - led by Boris I/ Simeon the GreatYugoslavia/Serbia - Stefan Dusan/ Peter I/ Josip Broz TitoNorway - Harald Fairhair/ 'Saint' Olaf II/ Harald Hardrada/ Magnus Barefoot/ Eystein and Sigurd/ Haakon IVDakota tribes - Little Crow/ Crazy Horse/ Sitting BullArgentina - Jose de San Martin/ Julio Argentino Roca/ Hipolito Yrigoyen/ Juan PeronGran Colombia - Simon BolivarKhmer Empire - Jayavarman VIIMali - Mansa MusaHungary - Arpad/ 'Saint' Stephen I/ Bela IV/ Louis the Great/ Sigismund/ Matthias CorvinusBurma/Taungoo Empire (the empire that conquered most of Thailand and Laos, largest empire in Southeast Asian history) - Bayinnaung
Finland - Carl Gustav Emil Mannerheim-------------- Kongo Kingdom (maybe) Swahili City States (maybe, probably not since Zanzibar is a confirmed city-state) Vietnam (maybe) Italy (maybe) Mexico (maybe) Tibet (maybe) Manchus (maybe)

Ah, yeah I forgot Mali wasn't in Civ V. It was in Civ IV, though, so it's not new to the series. Some good suggestions here. I'd like to add the Mapuche and Haida to the list - those are two significant Native American groups that haven't been in the game yet. It'd be interesting if they broke Polynesia up too, so you could have Hawai'i, the Maori, and Tonga as individual civs.

Introduction to 'Murica Is it just me, or does the way this lady talks about the unique abilities and units make it sound like we're going to have multiple leaders per civ? Like having Lincoln, Washington, and Roosevelt as leaders, that'd have the same general American abilities, as well as personal abilities as well? That sure is what it sounds like to me. Also (from alphr.com, link here) edit: two other interesting videos done by the civ 6 team Here's that video they were showing the background a couple posts ago: edit 2: Don't like Teddy's voice... That's not how I would have imagined it, it sounds like a 20'-40's radio broadcaster
