Sorry for the lack of activity - I've had a busy couple of days. Anyway, it seems like people want to move on to traits and portraits now, rather than create a backstory, so let's move on to that!
Traits
Traits are a bit of a tricky one - there are a lot of different traits, many of which are mutually exclusive, and there are rules on how many you can have. This makes it difficult to do a normal poll to decide traits, so instead I'll post a link to the full list of traits and their effects, and I'd like you all to post stating which traits you like the looks of (regardless of any restrictions) and/or post sets of traits that meet the restrictions that you'd like to use. If people mostly go with the former (just post which traits they think are cool) then I'll try and cobble together a set of traits from your suggestions, but if people mostly go with the latter (post sets of traits they'd like to use) then I may put the various suggested trait sets in a poll and see which one is the most popular. If you're confused as to what I want you to do here, please feel free to ask for clarification.
Right, so the following are the rules and restrictions that apply to a species' traits:
1. Some traits are mutually exclusive. This is only for opposite traits (e.g. Slow Learners and Fast Learners) and more powerful versions of traits (e.g. Strong and Very Strong). Which traits exclude which other traits will be noted on the list.
2. You can only have 4 traits total. You can have less, of course, but you can't go over 4.
3. Traits cost Trait Points, and you cannot spend more Trait Points than you have. You start off with 2 Trait Points, and it's possible to gain more by taking negative traits, whereas positive traits cost Trait Points. I think you're allowed to have unused Trait Points, but you really should use them all up.
The full list of traits can be found here. Note that we can only choose from the Standard Traits list - not the Uplifted Species Traits. If you're confused as to what certain traits do exactly please feel free to ask and I'll answer as soon as possible.
Portrait
Choosing a portrait is also kinda difficult, but mainly because there are so many! There are two ways we could choose our species portrait:
1. People nominate the portraits they like, and the nominations put into a poll.
2. Since portraits are divided into different categories (Reptillian, Molluscoid, Avian, etc.) we could first have a poll on which category we'd like to select our portrait from, and then have a second poll of all the portraits in that category.
So, if you'd rather do the first option, please take a look at the full gallery of species portraits here, and post the name of your favourites (feel free to just say "the 3rd Mammalian portrait" or "The one that looks like a snapping turtle" instead of giving the specific portrait name, if you want!). If you'd rather do the second option, then please post and let me know!
And as always, if you have any questions at all please don't hesitate to ask!
