Aaaand that's 10 players, so the registration for this round is now closed to new players. Anyone looking to play will have to wait until August when Round #02 will begin, or check back later and see if any players have withdrawn leaving a free spot on the roster.

Btw Krall, I don't know if it's still possible but could I do my map sooner rather later? I'm moving to Sweden on August 15th so I imagine after that I won't be doing much of anything with my computer for a couple of weeks and I don't want to disappoint.

I'll move you into the second position, so your turn starts immediately once courageouslife has made the initial map.

Yeah, you said you were alright with going second or third so I moved nanwe to just before you and bumped you down a slot. Is that okay?

Actually starting on July 15th is also ideal, because that's my deadline for a work paper, so after that I have more free time (or paradoxically less, since I tend to procrastinate by map-making )

So, how's Nanwe's turn looking? Did they finish their's? They're almost done but need an extra day to finish it. I'll edit the OP to take the extension into account.

As Milites is unfortunately snowed under with work and won't be able to make a map for this, this round is now over! The maps in order are: 1st, courageouslife:2nd, Nanwe:3rd, emprorlapland:4th, Arminius1871:5th, MinnesotaNationalist:6th, Sir-Conor:7th, Enmergal:8th, Zalezsky:Thanks to everyone who participated - the maps were high quality all around this round! Interesting how the game started off in the Americas before flipping to Europe and staying there (these games do seem to have a tendency to gravitate Europe-ward as they go on). I really liked the early "Western Rome survives and industrialises" concept, as well as the Greek thalassocratic confederation of city-states that flourished in the middle of the game. What part did you all like the most?

I made my map under the assumption that EmperorLapland's map was focused more on the Persia region, because, while looking up some of the names, I found that Sparda refers to the capital of Persian Anatolia, Mudraya refering to Persian Egypt, and Polykratia referring to a Greek King who was killed by one of the rulers from Sparda, so I assumed that it was about a longer lived Persian Empire. Looking at EmperorLapland's map seems to confirm partially my assumption, although I thought it would have had a lot more focus.
Also interesting to note that first three maps seemingly go backwards in time related to each other. The first is in 1600, the second is probably around the same time (doesn't give an exact date), and the last is around the era of the collapse of Rome back in 500. We stay in that era for 3 maps, then jump forward to the early-modern era, go back to the 600's, then jump to modern day. That's really odd.

Ah, I hadn't noticed the Persian influence in the Eastern Mediterranean. I think the fact that Nanwe's map didn't have a specific date on it made it very open to interpretation, hence the sudden backwards jump in time at that point. I'm guessing emprorlapland thought it was less of a "WRE survives" scenario and more of a "WRE starts to industrialise before collapsing" scenario.

I didn't put a specific date because I was working on character, Romans usually dated their years on the basis of who the Consuls were during that year, so even in that case, it would not have made much sense to show that anyhow.
It is interesting how my scenario in which I pictured a long-lasting, wider Roman culture totally shifted into a more Germanic Italy.
The maps are all awesome!

I had no idea what Nanwe's map was actually about, so I decided to take my best guess. I actually thought it was about the collapse of the roman Empire into various Latin States, so my logical following to that would be the dissolution of some of them. I was also hopping for the next one to do something related to the Goths
