Well, apparently Jill Stein is an anti-vaxxer. Sigh, and she was likely the one I was going to vote for her. That leaves me with like a 50-50 chance of me voting Johnson or Clinton. I'm not really a big fan of a Libertarian small government. I understand the appeal and why one would vote for them, I just personal prefer to have a larger government, but preferably that big government would be led by someone other than, well, just about any candidate running. *sigh* Why couldn't have Ventura or Bloomberg run? Stein is not an anti-vaxxer, per Snopes. www.snopes.com/is-green-party-candidate-jill-stein-anti-vaccine/Bloomberg was (TBMK) more of an anti-Right winger than a genuine third partier. Ventura has advocated some crazy things, and the recent court overturning his verdict against Chris Kyle's estate makes him look bad. (I'd still trust him over Clinton and Trump.) The neocons are flocking to Clinton's banner after the convention...good riddance, I say. Never thought I might see the day when Republicans would become the doves, but that will happen if Trump becomes the future of the GOP. Perhaps Robert Taft may be returning to style. I do wonder what Gore Vidal would have thought of this. He'd have been in favor of some of Trump's foreign policy (not the torture, though) and was one of the last few proud America Firsters, but he'd be dead set against almost all his domestic policy.

Glad that I stand corrected. I'm going to make sure that I tell my friend who told that to me (that, or have him provide me some actual sources). In many ways, I'll agree that Ventura should have stopped after Chris Kyle was dead, but, on the other side, this was also 2 years ago and I believe he started the suit before his death. He's also pretty crazy, I'll admit, but to some extent I think it's a crazy that would sooner keep himself in check rather to have him go out of control. I don't know what crazy things he advocates, though (unless it's the stuff from his conspiracy theory TV show). But, all in all, I doubt he'll ever return to politics. He hated it, he felt like everyone was out to get him (good sir, you're a politician, that's kind of part of the job), and he said he had no privacy (again, kind of part of the job). For Bloomberg, well, I'm not exactly looking for a genuine third partier. If it had been just about any other Democrat other than Clinton, I probably would have voted Democrat. Had it been any other Republican other than Trump, I possibly could have voted Republican. I'm just going Third Party or Independent this year because I don't like the candidates for the Republicans and the Democrats.

Not sure about Gore Vidal...wasn't he a fairly boilerplate antiwar lefty?
But anyways, I think the neocons lurch forward on inertia alone. Their Middle East adventures were disasters, so now they look to resurrect the Cold War, telling us that a weak, corrupt petrostate somehow poses a mortal danger to us. Eventually people will realize that democracy promotion and saber rattling are geopolitical dead-ends, and support more people that focus on America first.
But I'm disappointed that the Democrats rapidly embraced the neocon viewpoints, especially on Russia and NATO, in an effort to bash Trump.

Vidal was in some ways- but how many leftists bragged about being in America First? As for the Neocons, it's the establishment and politicians in it who are embracing it, not the public. (Let's not forget Henry M. Jackson- or how the Democrats treated Joe Lieberman as opposed to Ned Lamont.) And they would likely do the same if someone else of similar ilk was running. (Look how they treat Democrats who do not toe their line on foreign policy (See Bernie Sanders, Dennis Kucinich, Cynthia McKinney and Alan Grayson).) In other news, Gary Johnson is polling an average of 7.5%, while Jill Stein is polling around 3.5%. thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/289859-third-party-support-surging

A recent poll had Trump FOURTH among young people, behind Clinton, Johnson and Stein. CNN has held two Libertarian town halls, and will be holding a Green town hall soon. Deep joy! In one of the best zingers from a VP, Mike Pence commented on the recent endorsement of Clinton by a former CIA director (raising the Putin Scare), by saying, "I suppose this is the same CIA that told the president that ISIS was the JV team." Nice. In downballot news, Clinton's senate candidate in Florida is copying her and refusing to debate Alan Grayson. (If I were a media outlet, I'd coveronly candidates who wished to debate- and if they dropped- the ones who stayed get a free platform.) www.orlandosentinel.com/news/breaking-news/os-patrick-murphy-alan-grayson-no-debate-20160803-story.html

Honestly, when foreign policy "experts" endorse Clinton, that's really a good argument to support Trump. These experts got us into the mess we're in, after all.

Then again, when most media outlets have not held themselves accountable for their reporting of lies in regards to Iraq and other places, they are deservedly at fault as well. (There are a few exceptions, mostly outlets on the left and right, plus McClatchy News.) In other news, Clinton's campaign is pushing the conspiracy theory that Russia is behind the Wikileaks disclosures. Do they have evidence? Not really. thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/290656-clinton-releases-video-linking-trump-to-russiaAnd the usual suspects are saying the same about Jill Stein! Really! (I wonder why they are so afraid of her...) Meanwhile, I missed this bit of news. A Republican Congressman, Adam Kinzinger, is trying to get NATO to invoke Article 5 to respond to IS. (About time, if you ask me. NATO members have been attacked over a dozen times by IS and their self-proclaimed soldiers.) Alas, the article is from a month ago, so we know how well that's worked out. thehill.com/video/in-the-news/287933-watch-republican-urges-nato-declaration-against-terrorism

I'm a bit young, but I can still remember 2003, and the media's role in whipping us into a frenzy for war. My parents are fairly conservative, but to their credit, they inculcated me with a distrust for corporate media. I remember them telling me to notice how news outlets switched from calling it the "War on Iraq" to the "War in Iraq" or "War for Iraq" after Saddam fell, so they could legitimize the occupation. It may not have been entirely true, but I carried that distrust forward to this day.

Well, my parents are rather right wing, though my dad is at least skeptical of almost all the media and generally does not pay attention. (Ignorance is bliss and he wants to be happy. That's not his exact sentiment, but it's close.) He does watch some stuff on C-SPAN (which has grown more right-wing). Today, I found out that Clinton is being sued by Larry Klayman representing two family members of those killed in Benghazi. On the one hand, I do believe that, had it not been for Hillary Clinton, they would both be alive, so in that sense, the suit is justified. On the other hand, their claims of why she's responsible are rather crazy. They put the blame not on her pushing for the bombing of Libya to aid the Islamist rebels against the secular government, or for her using the consulate to funnel arms from Libya to jihadis fighting the secular government of Syria, but on her email server being easily hacked. Seriously. They also claim foreign governments got the info and funneled it to Al-Quaida. (I'm not sure what governments they are referring to- I don't think the Saudis or Gulf states needed to hack in, and while it's one thing to advocate the conspiracy theory that Russia hacked the DNC, it's another to hold to the Litvinenko* conspiracy theory that Russia is behind al-Quaida or wants to help them.) And, I do genuinely believe that Clinton may have been wrong when blaming the protests and attack on the video, but she was not lying. www.nbcnews.com/news/world/two-benghazi-parents-sue-hillary-clinton-wrongful-death-defamation-n625861In other news, there is a new independent challenger. He's a right-winger, but not a fan of authoitarianism. He's from Utah, so Zioneer might like him. He was in the CIA, and is in favor of regime change in Syria. He's got a superPAC behind him. I'm not likely to back him, but he is cooler than Clinton and Trump. www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/08/08/6-things-to-know-about-independent-presidential-candidate-evan-mcmullin/*Yes, Alexander Litvinenko did allege that Russia was behind Al-Quaida. He also said they were behind the 7/7 bombings. Why he's considered a reputable source is beyond me.

I'm not sure if this was something posted here earlier, or if I just missed the post, but this is apparently Jill Stein's running mate: Ajamu BarakaBoy, I like Jill Stein, but I really don't like this guy (possibly for the reason that this is exactly someone Orville would like ). He seems like the kind of person that thinks that every white person is racist, and that if a black person supports a white person he's betraying his kind. That's the impression I'm getting from him. I'm probably still voting Stein, but if Stein were to be killed in office (assuming she wins), I'd run to the Canadian border as quickly as I could.

Well, the fix is in again. Thanks to Obama, Biden, Reid and others jumping into the fray and doing what only a few years ago would be considered a breach of etiquette, Florida Democrats picked an ex-Republican who lied about his resume over the most effective member of Congress. Alan Grayson has stated he ran a positive, issue-based campaign, and will not be endorsing a Republican, be it Marco Rubio or Patrick Murphy. (Mr. Grayson, go Green. They won't betray you.) This is easily the biggest betrayal of a Democrat by Democrats since Ned Lamont. www.orlandosentinel.com/news/politics/os-primary-us-senate-races-20160829-story.htmlAlso, his wife lost the chance for a runoff to hold his old seat- though a former aide (who the DCCC wanted to slant stuff against) is still in. Let's hope she keeps the torch high. (Ugh, despite the "winner" not getting a majority, she lost out, and someone else got the nomination.) Meanwhile, backed by the corrupt DNC, Clinton, Obama, Biden and others, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz beat Tim Canova. Bernie Sanders never bothered to show up. www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/election/article98944892.htmlwww.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/08/canova-revolution-bernie-sanders-debbie-wasserman-schultz/497807/If things keep going this way, I won't vote for any Democrats on any level.

Obama has declared that he will help clear out the unexploded bombs from the Secret War with Laos. I am against this. I will admit, I am biased, but living in an area where many Hmongs lives, who are probably the ones most effected by the Secret War, I can't help but be biased. Ever since the end of the Secret War, Hmongs have been hunted down and killed by the Laotian Government (sadly, it's just another phase of a long history of this happening to them), and until I can get confirmation by the Laotian Government and UN peacekeepers that the Hmongs are safe in Laos and that the Hmong Genocide is over (or even better, the Hmong get their own state), I can not agree with aiding the Laotian government in any way. Maybe directly helping the Laotian people, but not the government.

In the Florida Democratic Senate primary, I, like many others, focused on the two members of Congress, and not a third candidate. Pam Keith is a lawyer and a former JAG officer. (She's African-American too.) She was in the race, only she didn't get the coverage from most outlets. (It did not help that she had to self-fund, and did not have the deep pockets of Grayson and deeper pockets of Murphy.) The Miami Herald took a principled stand and endorsed her over the much-maligned Grayson and the establishment-backed Murphy. This, in fact, led to her getting more votes in many areas than Grayson- and the media mostly used it to mock Grayson, not cover her. Well, Clinton is off the campaign trail due to pneumonia. Some are acting like it's no big deal, but she should have known a while ago that she was sick, and her pushing herself, while understandable, is rather disturbing. (I'm worried that we may have the first president to die in office of natural causes since FDR if she or Trump gets in.) Meanwhile, while the focus is on Clinton's foundation, people forget Trump had a foundation...and it's giving away a LOT of other people's money, not Trump's. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/how-donald-trump-retooled-his-charity-to-spend-other-peoples-money/2016/09/10/da8cce64-75df-11e6-8149-b8d05321db62_story.htmlIn regards to my studies, I did find out some cool political things. My school's law library includes a number of volumes formerly in the possession of the Honorable Clement Haynesworth. Who is he? Well, he's best known for being a judge Nixon tried and failed to put on the Supreme Court. He had a long career, and is the namesake of our current federal courthouse. rsparlourtricks.blogspot.com/2005/10/clement-haynesworth.html(Former Congressman and Governor Carroll Campbell is the namesake of the one that's planned.) www.wyff4.com/news/10story-federal-courthouse-planned-for-downtown-greenville/37028646I also looked through the election laws and found one thing that was interesting. In SC, you can be barred from voting for three classes of crimes. One is for felonies (originally, it was a long list, now it's been compacted), and it ends once you complete your sentence. One is for violating the election laws. The third type- which also denies anyone who commits it the right to hold office, per the State Constitution- is Dueling.

Well, I completed my pollworker training, and now I have to wait until the polls open for absentee voting, and then election day! There are sadly few competitive races in my area. Of all the state house and senate seats, one senate race and two house races (both of which are shared with other counties) are facing a Democrat running against a Republican, while one senate seat has a Republican running against a Constitution party candidate, while one house race has a Democrat running against an Independence Party candidate. (One county council seat also has a Constitution candidate running against a Republican.) There are some competitive non-partisan races, notably school board, though nobody is running for soil and water conservation district- so whoever gets the most write-in votes wins. On the federal level, District 3 has Democrat Hosea Cleveland running against Republican Jeff Duncan, while in District 4, Democrat Chris Fedalei and Constitution candidate Michael Chandler are running against Republican Trey Gowdy. The Senate has seven party lines, but four candidates. Tim Scott is facing Rebel Michael Scarborough of the American party (more on them below), Bill Bledsoe of the Constitution and Libertarian parties (I would think that, despite some shared views, the two parties would be at each other's throats over social views), and Thomas Dixon for the Democratic, Green and Working Families parties. (Yes, electoral fusion is legal here in SC.) I don't think the United Citizens Party has nominated any candidates, sad to say. For President, we have seven candidates, but none are on more than one ballot line. We have Clinton/Kaine, Trump/Pence, Stein/Baraka for the Greens, Johnson/Weld for the Libertarians, Darrell Castle and Scott Bradley for the Constitution party, Evan McMullin and Nathan Johnson for the Independence party, and Peter Skewes and Michael Lacey for the American party. Now for the third parties- the American party is not affiliated with the old George Wallace party. It's expressly centrist. It was founded by a former Democratic Superintendent of Education and a former Republican who ran against Mark Sanford. They are in favor of term limits and campaign finance reform. The United Citizens Party was founded to get African-American candidates elected back when the white establishment controlled the Democratic party. They were mostly inactive for a time, but were used to get Perot on the ballot in 1992. They backed Ralph Nader in 2000 and Socialist Walt Brown in 2004. They endorsed Obama in 2008, but he refused their endorsement. The Independence party is interesting. They have no set ideology. They did nominate Ralph Nader in 2004. As always, those still on AH.com, feel free to relay this information there! They will no doubt find it interesting!

Well, the Clinton Foundation got hacked a few months ago. Meanwhile, Guccifer posted some nice info on Clinton Foundation donors. www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-06-22/clinton-foundation-said-to-be-breached-by-russian-hackersThe Clinton Foundation, of course, denies it. www.politico.com/story/2016/10/guccifer-hacker-clinton-foundation-files-229113The Obama administration dropped charges against an arms dealer charged with selling arms to Libyan rebels. (It should be noted that the US, NATO and the Gulf states ostensibly set up a blockade and no-fly-zone to do just that. In fact, it was a sham to overthrow the Libyan government.) www.politico.com/story/2016/10/marc-turi-libyan-rebels-hillary-clinton-229115A George W. Bush judge denied Judicial Watch the right to look at drafts of a potential criminal indictment of Hillary Clinton. www.politico.com/story/2016/10/hillary-clinton-whitewater-indictment-drafts-229093There is an investigation into alleged vote-buying in Illinois- which is being accused of voter intimidation. chicago.suntimes.com/politics/kankakee-county-investigates-vote-buying-allegations/In NC, a court found that NC illegally racially gerrymandered districts, but ruled that the districts had to stay. www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/news/a47620/north-carolina-racial-gerrymandering/Transgender voters may have trouble voting. www.yahoo.com/news/transgender-voters-may-face-problems-voting-u-election-230507054.html?soc_src=mail&soc_trk=maSo may disabled voters- though in a different way. mic.com/articles/155476/report-voters-with-disabilities-are-treated-like-second-class-citizens-at-the-polls?Gary Johnson refuses to think the dead in Syria matter more than the dead in other places. www.cnn.com/2016/10/05/politics/gary-johnson-syria-us/index.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%253A+rss%252Fcnn_latest+(RSS%253A+CNN+-+Most+Recent)Recently, a lot of Trump backers said Wikileaks would blow up Clinton's campaign. Wikileaks did not release anythings treated as bombshells, but one site noted something they put out- about Clinton talking about a drone strike on Wikileaks. pbs.twimg.com/media/Ct1wSv6WEAAtX6X.jpgClinton "doesn't recall" it, and says it was a joke, despite her not acting jokey when she said it, per reports. thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/299295-clinton-i-dont-recall-any-joke-about-droning-wikileaksWikileaks also promoted a nice video on how Clinton helped the coup in Honduras. They also put a nice little bombshell in the end of their press pack, addressing some myths, and pointing out how DNC contributors could take legal action against the DNC for failing to follow proper credit card safety protocols. wikileaks.org/10years/WikiLeaks10yrsPressPack.pdfSpeaking of Honduras, Tim Kaine came under a red-baiting attack by the Daily Beast and a right-wing Catholic group for his time there and his association with a former priest. The Intercept points out how the priest ended up. theintercept.com/2016/10/04/tim-kaine-john-negroponte-and-the-priest-who-was-thrown-from-a-helicopter/The big bombshell is next-to-last. While the eyes of America are on hurricane Matthew, there's been complaints filed against the Clinton campaign and the Trump campaign (and their supporting SuperPACs), by the same group. They go into quite a bit of detail, and they genuinely are nonpartisan in their criticism. That said, they sadly do not expect FEC action. www.yahoo.com/news/watchdog-group-accuses-clinton-campaign-of-election-law-violations-214054242.htmlLast, but not least, one candidate was so popular with Republicans in his state that he got written in. His name is Peter Welch, and he also has the Democratic nomination. Even cooler, he's a backer of Bernie Sanders! www.politico.com/story/2016/10/peter-welch-vermont-democrat-republican-229251
