I'll be going to the Ottoman Empire next summer. I'm hoping to travel all over it. Are there any major things that I shouldn't miss?
OOC: I hope this is the right forum for this.

The province of Palestine is nice during the summer. You should check out Jerusalem; I went there a few years ago, great people!
Istanbul is nice as well. The Great War Memorial Museum is a must see.

Hmmm..... That's a tough one. Istanbul is always the generic answer, but I think that Athens might be pretty place to visit. Yeah, they've had issues with riots in the past, but I've heard that the new provincial administration has cleaned things up. Pretty cheap as well, with good food and the architectural sites of course. I had thought about planning to go there as a post-graduation trip, and did some preliminary research, although I'm pretty set on Rome now. Just make sure to stick to the touristy parts of town.

I quite enjoyed the mosque in Philibe (I believe the local Christians call it 'Plovdiv'). That whole region is nice, albeit barbaric.

Not sure if barbaric is the right word, although it does seem that the region has gone through some troubles with crime and rebels in the recent past. Still, isn't the Bulgarian Peoples' National Liberation Front defunct?

Thanks for the suggestions! I was already planning on going to Istanbul and Jerusalem, but I'll make sure to go to Philibe and Athens as well. Philibe sounds especially interesting; I didn't know there were still any plurality Christian areas in the Empire.
In addition, I'd like to go to at least two other countries nearby while I'm in the region. I'm open to suggestions on that as well.

OOC: I hope this is the right forum for this. OoC: I'm going to be lenient regarding Double Blind What-Ifs/Roleplays and say they can go in here (Games and Collaborative Projects) or the board they're relevant to (in this case AH Discussion). Feel free to request a move if you'd rather this thread be in AH Discussion.

Hm, a few years back my dad went on a business trip to the Albania province. More specifically Tirana. I've seen the photos; in the center of the city there's a huge Mosque, and right next to it is a Cathedral. My dad commented on the language, saying how the "native" Albanian language is part of any European language group, and it had been mixed with Ottoman Turkish, ofc. Actually, several specifically Albanian letters (which are written out in the Latin alphabet) have gotten their own letter in the script. My dad also says the city is beautiful, with a blend of European and Ottoman culture, and that a number of Italians have been immigrating there for a few years now, due to the Venetian Financial Crisis. Though, my dad has commented saying how the Albanian Independence Movement have been growing lately, with several protests occurring when he was there.

Have those Arab riots from a few months ago died down? Still, I wouldn't recommend travelling to the Palestine province.

Have those Arab riots from a few months ago died down? From what I've read, yes. The Albanian parliamentary elections are starting in January, the Albanian Arab Equality Party will be running for office, and not wanting to loose any votes the riots have been put to a halt, but the more radical of them still have small riots every once and a while. From the predictions I've seen, the AAEP should get a few more seats, somewhere between 20 to 30. If this is the case, they should be able to get some legislation through, with the new Equality For Nations Party (which was founded by moderate members of the Albania First Party) most likely gaining seats in the upcoming elections as well.

How has nobody said to visit Leymosun ? It's beautiful this time of year, and it'll make you forget the winter was happening. Just lovely.

I have relatives in Palestine so I'm definitely going there. I was a little worried about safety, but the Arab riots are over as far as I can tell. I will try to get to Albania and Cyprus although I've heard it's hard to get transportation to Cyprus.
I'm planning on going to at least one bordering country as well though. Any ideas? Austria is obviously off limits with the civil war going on but I'm open to any other suggestions.

Free France, maybe? I know that many Muslims have a negative opinion of Free France due to its history, but it's actually a very nice little country and the ethnic tensions aren't as bad nowadays. Stay away from Algiers - it's full of tourists. Oran and Ajaccio are quieter.

Ah, I've heard that the Federation of the Caucasus is nice during the summer. More specifically, Tbilisi, the capital. Though, I've read in the news that lately in areas with greater Russian number of people, there have been protests over the actions Tbilisi took after the Russians shot down a few military jets. Other than that it sounds it's safe. Oh, and on the subject of Austria, what's been happening there? The last time I read some news involving the Austrian Civil was one, two months ago; when the Socialist Republic of Austria and a few small organizations (most of them being minorities seeking more rights) joined forces, and the Austrian Government Forces made a push to retake Innsbruck?
