I think I've covered the basics with the current boards, but what else do we need or want? Any and all input is appreciated.

I'd like to advocate for a non-political chat only. You wanna chat politics there's facebook, the zoo and /pol/

I think we're going to see people stray into political chatter no matter what is done. I don't think we can trust 'em to wander off and do it elsewhere, so a political chat could be a good venting mechanism, so to speak.

I've been considering having a Political Chat forum where threads must be approved in order to be posted, with the intention being that general threads on various issues (American Politics Thread, Syrian Civil War Thread, etc.) will be created and all relevant articles and discussion will stay in its own thread. Thoughts?

Thoughts? You know, that actually sounds like a pretty good idea. Maybe we should brand it as a "Current Events" forum instead?

I know how risky it is having a political forum at all, but I guess if we can segregate it to just one forum we can all ignore need be, then that's better than nothing.

And they're right (over there), we need to try and be more than a forum. It's too bad we can more closely integrate some of the blogs and whatnot that some of our members have, into this forum. I don't know, this whole thing bums me out.

Thoughts? That seems pointless. Not having Chat was what killed Japhy's forum, so I think we need some sort of political discussion if we want this to really survive. I don't see how requiring the threads to be pre-approved solves anything.

I don't see how requiring the threads to be pre-approved solves anything. Hmm, perhaps you're right. Plus, requiring all political discussion to only be on certain pre-approved topics seems kinda police state-y. I think for the moment I'll make a political discussion and implement rules and restrictions as and when they're needed.

It might still be prudent to sticky big Topic Threads (like the various politics threads or Syria or Ukraine) so that people are discouraged from starting redundant threads when they see them at the top

Separating political chat from general banter was one of the things Ian got right, IMO.

I like the forum setup. Might want to make creative writing members only if you can though. Some people won't want to post their stories if you don't due to publication issues.

I would make the general discussion and politics sections private if you haven't already.

So you can post things some guest might not want to see, i do it also on my forum, it can be a place to discuses certain matters related to certian people.

Just so people can talk about their personal issues without them being easily searchable on Google. Of course, it wouldn't be completely private, but it would make things slightly less "out in the open," so to speak.

If you want to discuses certain matter you can also create one single sub-board for it, call it Members only club, this can be a place where you can discus things you do not guest or certain people from finding out.
