Hi! On the old forum, this was one of my favorite threads, and I even considered (or am considering) making a book out of it. I think something similar should be done here. (I also think this should stay in a public section, but that's just me.) Here we can post images or references to events that sound or look like they're not historical, but are. This is NOT a place for pictures that are edited to make fictional things appear. (For example, the picture of a Battletech mech in the siege of the Winter Palace is not- though a picture of said mech being in a school exam is not. And, yes, that really happened.) For extra fun, you can post an alternate history of that image. For example: Following the victory of Strom Thurmond in the 1948 US presidential election, the United States embarked on a White Supremacist foreign policy, which was only intensified under his successor, George Lincoln Rockwell. Rockwell actually sought to attack and ethnically cleanse nonwhite countries, and Israel was one of the many nations he targeted. The Israeli armed forces, aided by former guerillas as well as Arab and Palestinian forces fought back. However, the end to the war came after an armed uprising in the United States, which overthrew the Rockwell government, and set up a multiracial, unity democratic government in its place, also helping inspire racial and ethnic reconciliation all over the world. The many guerrilla factions were honored by other nations that the US attacked. Here we see a street in the United State of Israel-Palestine named for one prominent American guerrilla Group- the Black Panthers. (OOC: In actuality, the street is named for a different group of Black Panthers, who sought equal treatment for Mizrahi Jews in Israel. They even had a member of Parliament.) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Panthers_(Israel)

A world where the Byzantine Empire spread its influence deep into the heart of Africa, owning everything from the Straits of Constantinople to the Great Lakes of Africa? Nope! Just a picture from the 80s of one of the few remaining Greek communities in Ethiopia, dressed in the garb of the Evzones.

One of the branches of the NebraskaLand National Bank, a flourishing enterprise in the Nebraskan Republic. OOC: Just a local bank that I saw when driving through North Platte. Still, it seems a bit silly to call your local bank a "National" bank.

Reminds me of a bank that moved to our area not long ago. It's from the State of Arthur. (OOC: It's just CALLED Arthur State Bank, after the founder.)

German troops in Suburban England after a successful Operation Sea Lion? Nah, just German troops in Jersey after a successful occupation of the Channel Islands.

As we all know, the Reagan Administration was hostile to regulation. In one of the more controversial actions, officials annulled the planned breakup of AT&T and the Bell System. Further, they encouraged the consolidation of control over the aforementioned organizations, allowing AT&T to take total control over the old Regional Bell Operating Companies. While the Bell System/ AT&T would survive, their old names would not be entirely kept. The new organization combined both longstanding names, as well as abandoning the long-lasting Bell symbol. (They did have Saul Bass, designer of the 1969 Bell logo design a new logo.) upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/08/AmBe.jpg(In actuality, this was an AT&T subsidiary that sold telephone and terminal equipment, and was kept after the breakup of the Bell System. They just had to change the name, as AT&T only had rights to the "Bell Labs" name.)

In the 1600's Japan opened up to the outside world, accepting Christianity, developing trade relations and even abandoning their old languages. Japan also sought to expand their influence outward. You're looking at a replica of one of the first Japanese-made galleons, the San Juan Bautista. The true story is stranger. The ship had the same name, and was built by a ruler sympathetic to Christianity. It was used to take Japanese diplomats on a mission to Rome and the Pope, via Mexico. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Juan_Bautista_(ship)

US President George Clooney, together with First Lady Amal Clooney, meeting German Chancellor Angela Merkel. (In actuality: the Clooneys met Merkel during the Berlin International Film Festival to discuss the refugee crisis and Germany's exemplary role in it.)

Following the death of Paul McCartney, some obscure figure made a meatball-type dish, and entitled it, "Paul is Dead." This culinary invention, despite the morbid name, continues to be around, and is served in a variety of places, including Kurdistan. (In reality, someone transliterated "Meatball" into Arabic, then ran that Arabic phrase through Google Translate, which was biased towards the phrase "Paul is dead", thanks to all the searches for it.) languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu/nll/?p=12647

In UK politics, one of the groups fighting to keep the United Kingdom is the Scottish National Party. Needless to say, those seeking Scottish Independence have chosen to resign or been forced out. (This letter was chosen based on the SNP's lack of support for independence following the referendum, despite the SNP sweeping Scotland's seats.)

A while ago, I saw these images on a thread of the same name and topic as this one: I don't know about you but they look like the Rebel Army flags from the Metal Slug universe (who are the bad guys in case you ask). I could have made an alternate history description of them but Metal Slug is very, very ASB for as far as I know.

While it looks like something out of a railpunk universe, this very rare rail care was used around the southern United States in the 1930s.

That's just fucking with my head in all kinds of ways.
I do have an image of a Railway Baron (the Monopoly Man) zooming along a track in that thing.
