Meanwhile, Boris Johnson has attacked Obama over his opposition to Brexit, repeating US right-wing talking points about him being anti-British and moving the bust of Churchill. I do think it's unfair to Obama, and I say it as someone who favors both a Brexit and Scexit and is not much of a Churchill fan.

Today is the UK's answer to Super Tuesday, with elections for the Scottish Parliament (Go SNP!), National Assembly of Wales (Go Plaid!), Northern Ireland Assembly (Don't let the DUP win!), 124 councils, crime commissioners in England and Wales, at least four mayoral elections, including London, Bristol, Liverpool and Salford (where Chris Eccleston's from!), and two by-elections for Parliament (Ogmore and Sheffield Brightside). www.bbc.com/news/live/uk-politics-36050790

Maybe I should pay more attention to my own country's politics...

Well, Labour now runs London again -and the Mayor is Muslim. (Sadly there were scurrilous accusations against him.) The SNP are still in power, but with a minority government- though a majority of members back independence, between SNP and the Greens. The Lib Dems won some seats...and the Tories gained seats, something which I did not expect and am upset/disapopinted over.

Not for "Remain" voters, though.

Not for "Remain" voters, though. True- though it's certainly not expected. And it's certainly bad news for the establishment who are backing this.

Jeremy Corbyn has lost a confidence vote as Labour leader. Some say this is in regards to Brexit. I (and a few others, like Craig Murray) think that Blairite elements want him out of power before he can apologize for Chilcot. Edit: I now know the attempts to oust him were planned long before Leave won. Note the date. (Thanks, Wikileaks!) www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/06/13/labour-rebels-hope-to-topple-jeremy-corbyn-in-24-hour-blitz-afte/And as of now, I never intend to read J.K. Rowling. To say that Corbyn staying on would mean the death of Labour means abandoning all Labour stood for- much like Rowling's hero Blair. (In fact, I now have a novel idea...)

Well, there are threats from the families of dead soldiers to sue Blair for all he's got. (I'm wondering if it would be legal for me to help gather evidence.) www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/chilcot-tony-blair-iraq-war-soldiers-families-sue-every-penny-prosecution-a7126386.htmlThere is a petition to expel Blair from Labour. (One wonders if they will let George Galloway back in.) www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/chilcot-tony-blair-iraq-war-soldiers-families-sue-every-penny-prosecution-a7126386.htmlThe military chiefs have been ordered not to discuss Chilcot with the media- or the troops. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/07/10/military-chiefs-gagged-over-chilcot/In other news, Andrea Leadsom just left the PM race after being criticized for an interview in which she claimed that her being a mother made her a better PM candidate than Theresa May. (On the one hand, I'm not a fan of her for this, and her lying about her CV- plus I'm not generally a fan of the Tories. OTOH, May wrote the Snooper's Charter and is not a fan of Brexit.) Here's a nice article on her, though a bit fawning. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/07/10/ive-been-under-attack-its-been-shattering-andrea-leadsom-apologi/Part was due to Tory papers backing May- oddly, said papers also backed Brexit. www.theguardian.com/media/greenslade/2016/jul/11/blue-quartets-hostility-to-andrea-leadsom-reduces-her-to-tearsMay does have some interesting views- she is opposed to some corporate mergers, and states that taxes pay for vital services. Meanwhile, Angela Eagle is trying to challenge Corbyn for Labour leader. There are calls by some to deselect HER. (If I were a Labourite, I'd want someone leading my party who did not make a mistake over Iraq.) www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/jul/11/diane-abbott-angela-eagle-empire-strikes-back-candidate-labour

Has anyone else noticed how dominated by women high level British politics seems to be after the referendum? We've got Nicola Sturgeon in Scotland running the only major party which isn't having a leadership contest, the main two candidates for Conservative leadership - Andrea Leadsom and Theresa May - were both women, and the main challenger for the leadership of the Labour party is Angela Eagle. Regardless of what I think of them it's heartening to see.

Regardless of what I think of them it's heartening to see. Agreed. The UK is far more open to women (and LGB people- though maybe not the T just yet) than the USA. Then again, their religious right is more on the fringes (except NI). In other news, Labour just voted to deny over 100000 new members the right to vote in the elections for Labour leader. (The vote was taken not long after Corbyn left the room.) boingboing.net/2016/07/12/uk-labours-dirty-trick-exclu.htmlThey have begun naming the new cabinet. Boris Johnson is FM. (On the one hand, he's less diplomatic than John Kerry, but more so than Donald Trump.) David Davis is Secretary for Brexit. www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-36790710
