The Middle East used to be rife with Platonic thinking during the Golden Age of Islam. Unfortunately, the death of the wise Ibn Rushd and the destruction of the region by the Mongols eliminated this beacon of light. Even worse, the wounds that the Islamic world suffered became gangrenous when the empiricist ideologies disguised as 'modernism' and 'fundamentalism' became prevalent.

Well, Turkey may be changing sides, after the IS bombing in Istanbul. They launched artillery strikes on IS positions not long ago.

On the one hand, I'm reluctant to commit forces in the Mideast, especially without the required congressional authorization. OTOH, IS needs its butt kicked and boots on the ground from ANYONE will help- and it's not like we haven't had boots on the ground already.
