With a PoD no earlier than 1790, set up a situation where the USA (Or something like it, ala DoD) ends up annexing the territory of Mexico by the modern day. It can be by peaceful means, warfare, epidemiological divergences, etc.

I don't think we have to go much further than the Mexican-American war, since there was a huge debate of whether of not the whole of Mexico should be annexed. Of course, the debate over Slavery would have to a head much earlier, maybe only a year after the war depending how negotiations between north and south went over how Mexico would be divided slavery-wise.

Annexing all of Mexico would be impossible, because of the racial dynamic.

Since most Mexicans were and are Hispanized Catholic Natives, I don't think the US would be down with that, and if the South tries to enslave them, well it would make Vietnam look like a game of beach volleyball.

This might sound far fetched but maybe have the ongoing drug wars in the present day get out of hand in the future, necessitating a need to annex the country by some right wing groups (and maybe Trump since he wants solve the immigration issue). By the time someone like Trump gets elected (though I doubt Trump would but bear with me), Mexico's all f##ked up and he (or she?)'s like, "well I guess we have to take this poor child in rather than become the next Somalia". And so the Mexican states become part of America's and Mexico's days of being independent are over with the US flag flying over Mexico City with the US anthem blaring in the background. Hell I can just imagine the whole thing right now with the president giving a speech about giving Mexico a new future under US...um administration and that they don't have to worry about being unstable again, though I can also imagine a big effort to Americanize Mexico since well its part of the US ITTL and Mexico would end up becoming the Korea of the 21st century.

There is no way in Hell that Republicans are going to agree to annex Mexico in the future. After all, even if 40% of Mexicans will vote Republican, there would still be a deficit of a dozen million votes--if not even more than that--in favor of the Democrats in Mexico!
