Following discussion in the new Suggestions board we've decided to make some changes to the Political Discussion board, as follows:
1. Only members with at least 50 posts may create threads and post in the Political Discussion board.
2. Posts made in the Political Discussion board will not contribute to a member's post count.
These changes will take effect in 24 hours (21:00 on the 16th of March, GMT) in order to give members time to wrap up whatever conversations they may have going on in the Political Discussion board.

Well then. I will not have much reason to visit here most likely.

Well then. I will not have much reason to visit here most likely. I'm sorry, but we do want this site to be about Alternate History, and we'd like to mitigate the possibility of heated political debates that can create a hostile atmosphere on this forum.

Well then. I will not have much reason to visit here most likely. There are plenty other threads to post in who do count.

Please note that the changes have now taken effect. It appears that posts already made in the PolDisc board still count towards post count, but future posts in the board should not.

To clarify: When you have reached fifty posts in all other boards, you can post in Political Discussion? And posts made in Political Discussion do not count towards your post count?

I personally oppose this rule. I think that AH.Com's policy on posting in Chat is quite adequate.
Heated political debates are a very good thing in my view, so long as they do not violate board rules, as they are a sign of civic engagement and interest of citizens in politics - something to be encouraged by all means.

Whilst some political debate is inevitable, we'd rather people didn't come to this site solely or primarily for the Political Discussion board, especially considering said people are likely to have extreme and passionate beliefs and thus are likely to provoke uncivil arguments. This rule helps us to achieve that by preventing people from posting in Political Discussion without having been active in the other areas of the site first, and the idea was popular when it was suggested for that reason. Of course all our rules are up for public review, so if it turns out this rule is hurting the forum and is unpopular with the community then we may change it, but that's the reason it was put into place.

The only people who have a problem with that rule are those who have fewer than 50 posts. Which can be rectified very easily by making posts in other parts of the forum, which is the purpose of the rule.
