The southern norse pilgrims during the late 19th century. My map for the MotF135. The concept of this is basicly that vikings started to settle along the Dniepr river during the viking age. As time past by the people started to develop their own culutre and became more and more slavic due to the russification of the area. But the people kept their religion despite this, and an important part of their culture is to go to one of the holy spots nearby, Sydpost, atleast once every few years, for a feast. This is always done by boat. For the people living further north along the Dniepr this becomes difficult, and the diffrence is pretty much that they only go (usualy) once a lifetime because of various religious reasons.

Soviet Oppression of religion and specifically intolerance of Orthodoxy lead to an agreement that was pressured onto the tiny nation of Tannu Tuva to take "willing" Orthodox Christians into their nation. What began as a ploy to rid the USSR of Orthodoxy ultimately lead to one of the greatest exoduses of the 20th century. News spread of the creation of a new Jerusalem in the East; a place where a messiah came and opened the gates to the new world order. Backed by the Patriarchate and Soviet State a mass pilgrimage began to occur, little did the Soviet government know that this ordeal would lead to the over throw of the Tannu Tuvan government and establishment of a Patriarchate of New Jerusalem.

Following the Despoilment of Earth during the War of the Seven Systems (or the War for All Humanity, as it is called by the government of the Human State) the interstellar Muslim community were cut off from their holy sites, and undertaking the Hajj was no longer viable for anyone unwilling to spend weeks on a hostile, lifeless planet. Undeterred, a group of Muslim military, government, business, and cultural leaders collected donations from throughout the stars to fund the creation of a space station in orbit of Earth that would host a new Hajj. As time went on, many non-Muslims joined in with the Hajj to Earth in order to view humanity's homeworld, rather than to participate in the religious observances. The Human State, pursuing the goals of their Homist ideology, took advantage of this and turned the Hajj into a secular celebration of human history, and an opportunity to dispense propaganda to their citizens. The modern Hajj is very different from its ancient counterpart, and the actions of the Human State have drawn the ire of other states as well as Muslims and social justice activists within humanity itself.
