HMS Thunderchild The Mediterranean Sea August 28, 2016
Rear Admiral Morton watched the guns of his flagship demolish the coastal fortifications on the Corsican shore. The battleship may have been eclipsed by the aircraft carrier as the queen of warships, but the guns of the Lion class were definitely proving their worth.

Nicholas George whistled as he stepped onto the bus. With American Aeroforce bombing raids on the wane, people were going about their daily business.
They had no idea how doomed they were.
George coughed and wiped his hand on his seat. He was doing his best to spread the pathogens around. Pretty soon, the city of Vancouver would feel the wrath of God.

"So, how is Operation Wormwood going?" asked Oswald.
"Well" said Bush "out of five carriers we sent, only one is still reporting back to us right now. The rest presumably failed to make it past the border."
"Well that sucks" said Oswald.
"Nonetheless" said Bush "the carrier has been able to go around the city unimpeded."
"He doesn't have an American flag tattoo or anything else that could give him away, does he?" asked Oswald, obviously referring to the botched assassination of Prime Minister Trudeau.
Bush smiled. "Of course not, sir."

British Columbia Premier James Middleton rubbed his head as he stared at the report. A spike in influenza cases had been reported in Vancouver lately.
This better not be what I think it is he thought to himself.

"So, how do we deal with this flu outbreak?" asked Trudeau.
Minster of Health Stanley Evans smiled. "The good news is, the so-called Scottish Flu is pretty much identical to flu strains from our world, so our vaccines are pretty effective against it" he said.
"Still" said Trudeau "This demands some kind of response."

Jimmy Carter watched as his grandchildren packed up the car. He didn't know why, but something told him he had to get out of Atlanta NOW. Therefore, he had braved the exorbitant gas prices to buy enough fuel to drive him and his family to Macon.

North America September 17, 2016
As the first RCAF bombers crossed into American airspace, the Americans did not see anything wrong-after all, the RCAF had been launching conventional raids on American territory since the beginning of the war.
However, the number of bombers kept getting bigger and bigger, as did their escorts. The Aeroforce scrambled every available fighter-though the fuel shortages meant that less were available than normal. The American fighters put up a valiant struggle and managed to down a few bombers, but their fight only managed to put a dent in the Canadian offensive. The arrival of RAF bombers from Bermuda and the Caribbean only made things worse for the American defenders.
The Anglo-Canadian forces had selected their targets based on intelligence gleaned from high-altitude reconnaissance. The ballistic missile facilities naturally received top priority. Their crews were caught flat-footed as the first bombs began falling. The overwhelming majority were destroyed without ever getting off a shot. However, at least three managed to get off a single missile each before being destroyed. The first fizzled out just short of Vancouver. However, the other two hit their marks in Quebec City and Winnipeg respectively, causing massive destruction and casualties. However, that would pale to what was happening south of the border.
For the next 90 minutes, the Lancasters and Vulcans engaged in a dance of destruction throughout NUSA's unoccupied North American territory. No less than 120 nuclear weapons were detonated over North America.
What happened to Charles Oswald III would remain unclear for years afterward. While most accepted that he died in the destruction of Atlanta after sending his family away, there are some who believe he escaped, although what happened next if he survied remains an open question. In any case, he was never seen again.
When the last Lancasters retreated back over the border, they left behind a massive smoldering ruin.

Ranganathan cleared his throat as looked at the camera.
"To the proclaimed NUSA government in South America" he began "No doubt you have witnessed the destruction wreaked upon the north. Now, you know the true consequences of angering us."
"We are offering you one last chance to lay down your arms and surrender. It is your responsibility to end the cycle of death and destruction."
"Thank you and good night."

Sanford, Rooseveltia September 17, 2016
"So" said Goldfein "How do we respond to the Empire's ultimatum?"
"I say we surrender" replied Hunt. "I do not wish to see what happened up north repeated."
"We can't surrender!" shouted Colonel Marvin Bush as he banged his fist on the table. "We must punish them for what they did!"
"And get wiped out ourselves?" asked Hunt. "Hell no."
"It doesn't matter, as long as we take as many of them with us as possible" thundered Bush.
Hunt turned to Goldfein. "What do you think, Dave?"
Goldfein looked down, drew a breath, and looked Hunt in the eye. "We won't use any more nukes" he said "But we won't surrender either."

"It's been ten days since we issued the ultimatum to the NUSA government in South America" said Harris. "They still haven't responded."
"That's fine" replied Ranganathan. "If they want to destroy themselves fighting us, we sure as hell ain't gonna stop them."

General Giles knew there was no point in fighting anymore when he learned what had happened to his homeland. So now here he was negotiating the surrender of American forces in Italy.
He had briefly contemplated eating his gun, but he could not let his men down like that. If his soldiers had to go into captivity, he would go with them.

Jimmy Carter took a sip from his hot chocolate mug as he watched his neighbors work on their generator. While radiation from the fallout of the Atlanta bomb had decreased to safer levels, the power grid was still out. But what concerned Carter the most was the lack of communication from either the federal or state government. The city of Macon was truly on its own.

Vice-Admiral Houseman took one last look at the city before he boarded the plane. The junta in Sanford had written Scandinavia off as a lost cause and ordered all American forces there to move to Normandy to prepare for a potential Imperial invasion. While a few select civilians were being evacuated as well, the vast majority were being left behind-to the mercy of the advancing Muscovites.
