"So, will the weather on the planned invasion date be calm enough?" asked Ranganathan.
"About as calm as it can be at this time of year" replied Mayfield. "At least near Calais. The rest: not so much."
"Looks like you picked the right spot after all" replied Ranganathan.

Private Walter Bulworth whistled to himself as he and his platoon swayed with the ship. They were scheduled to land just after sunrise. Currently, the Royal Navy was conducting an intense bombardment of the areas around the planned landing spots.
They were about to make history.

HMS Lion Calais, Occupied France January 1, 2017
Captain James Buff watched as the guns of Lion demolished the coastal defenses. In a couple of hours, the Empire's finest would be landing on those very shores.

Bulworth's heart continued to pound as his squad's landing craft got closer to shore. He checked his rifle one last time. To his left, a soldier from Nigeria uttered an Islamic prayer.
Finally, the craft came to a stop, and Bulworth's squad rushed off into the fray.

Private Lars Sandstrom watched another Imperial soldier fall from his sniper scope. He had just claimed his fifth kill of the day.
Looks like Jones owes me a beer Sandstrom thought as he reloaded his rifle. That was the last thought he had before a wayward 4.5-inch shell crashed into the hill he was camped on.

Hunt winced as he drove past the gas station. Until now, the economy of South America had not been impacted as badly as North America. Now, however, the misery was spreading south as the RCAF raids increased in frequency. According to a report-confidential of course-the economy of the rump NUSA could only last for two more months at best before undergoing collapse.
Still, Hunt figured that the economy of the British Empire was also under tremendous strain. If we could bleed the Brits out for just a little bit longer he thought we might be able to secure peace.

"Where did you get these books?" asked Sergeant Robert Satterfield as he looked over the stash.
"I found them in the home of a Leslie King II" replied Private John Chesterson. "Mr. King himself had bugged out and left the books behind. His maid was still there, however. Said the books belonged to King's father."
"Let's take a look inside" said Satterfield.

"So these are the diaries of Charles Oswald I?" asked Satterfield.
"That's what the maid told me" replied Chesterson. "The elder Leslie King was apparently one of Chuckie's closest friends, and Chuckie entrusted Leslie with his diaries upon his death.
The two men opened up the first book and flipped to a random page...
July 19, 1939 I can't believe it. I witnessed an Irish woman being raped in the streets by a gang of youths. Nobody lifted a finger to help as the woman was violated and then stabbed to death. But later on an elderly black woman is mugged, and a whole crowd intervenes to stop the mugger.
It's just not fair. The Republican Union claims to uphold the rights of the "white race", yet somehow the Negros get treated like kings and queens while actual white folk like us are treated like trash. If I were the one running this country, then that sort of hypocrisy would stop.
July 30, 1939 This is the opportunity of a lifetime. The Shicagwa Police Department burned down thanks to a faulty furnace. All of the records of this city's criminals were lost.
I told Joe Junior my plan today. With our records erased, we can ditch our old lives and join the Betters of Society. He called me crazy, but I know it will work. The boss wants us to get rid of the bodies of two rival gangsters. I think I know of place to do it...
July 31, 1939 It's done. Me and Junior strangled the kids one by one, starting with Rose and ending with little Ted. We then took care of the parents. After placing the bodies of the gangsters in our old bedroom, we poured the absinthe all over the house and lit it up. Then we went to Louie's house to get our new IDs. John Fitzgerald Kennedy is dead-meet Charles Custer Oswald.
Satterfield put the book down. "Sounds like NUSA's founder wasn't who everyone thought he was" he said.

Bulworth unscrewed his canteen and took a sip of water as the sun set.
The Calais landing had been a big success. The Imperial forces had established a beachhead and were pushing inward.

"Goldfein said WHAT?" asked Hunt in disbelief.
"He's saying we should surrender" replied the doctor. "That too many Americans have died already."
"No, no, we can't do that" said Hunt. "Who knows what terrible victor's justice the Empire will impose on us."
"What are you gonna do about it?" asked the doctor.
"Goldfein has obviously lost his mind" said Hunt. "We are not gonna listen to any order he gives."
