Hi folks. I rarely ever post on here, by and large, but I thought this was an important topic to start discussion on. As most are probably aware, a historically powerful hurricane has just entered the Caribbean Sea and is currently projected to go thru Puerto Rico and brush the northern coasts of Haiti and the Dominican Republic before quite possibly making landfall in South Florida this weekend; unfortunately, this looks like it could be a lot like Hurricane Andrew all over again and possibly with a fair bit of last year's Hurricane Matthew mixed in. Here, see for yourself. And here's the Weather Channel's analysis as well: weather.com/storms/hurricane/news/hurricane-irma-united-states-hurricane-warning-puerto-rico-leeward-islands-0So, yeah, this is looking really, really bad for Cuba and Florida in particular right now. And then we still have Jose to worry about as well.....damn, just damn. Really hoping this year doesn't turn out to be quite as awful as 2004 and '05 were.....

Well, folks.....there is some good news-it does appear that Miami-Dade may not take a quite such a direct strike from Irma after all.....though it still looks like it may cause more damage to both Cuba and the Gulf Coast side of Florida; check the maps for more details.

I've been hearing some scary stuff about the strength of Irma - I hope y'all are staying safe!

So, it looks like Miami is now largely safe from a direct impact from Irma at this point....which is great news for them. Unfortunately, though, the bad news is.....Irma could actually end up making a more significant impact on Tampa. So, still a bad situation, even if not looking quite as dire as before.

Okay, so the situation's looking better than it did yesterday. Irma will still cause a fair few problems for the Tampa Bay metro area and some other places, but it's no longer a major hurricane at this point. Still, though, I hope everybody in FL is staying as safe as they can.

Even so from the pictures its been very destructive and expensive, let alone while it was at full strength in the Caribbean. Going to be some time to pick up the pieces and get everything sorted out again. Not to mention there seems to be other hurricanes lining up, albeit not as powerful as Irma.

There's still Jose; although it's only a minor hurricane at this point, there does seem to be some concern, as of late, that it could affect the Northeast, particularly New England. So we'll have to see, I suppose.....
