We don't have a formal rules structure as of yet. One is planned, but any suggestions would be helpful.

Well. We need to be okay with some early protectionism. I mean, we should try and populate the board as soon as possible, but we have to be okay with banning... you know... Orville.
Or people who we know already to be troublemaking racists.

I don't think we should ban people for their activities on other sites; that could lead to dangerous conclusions.

It is a new board and would make sense to give everyone a clean slate in my mind. Otherwise, what Hominid said could happen.

Yeah, I suppose so. I just would be so happy to have an alternative.

We can always ban them once they say racist/bigoted things on here. However, I don't want there to be Internet-wide witch hunts against certain members.

You come in the door, and what you do in the house is what counts. Say whatever the fuck you like outside these four walls, but if you keep yourself civil and kind here, then you are allowed. Rule 2: Be kind

Agreed, offsite activities are not relevant unless they are specifically directed at our members in general or particular members.
I intend to run this forum so that it will be a safe space for LGBTQQIA people of all types, as well as for people of any race, religion, appearance, or mental state. However, I do intend to prevent overzealousness in this regard, and people expressing ambiguous statements will generally be given the benefit of the doubt and warned, with the intention of educating them on their possible errors. Whatever rules we have, they will be interpreted in accordance with this vision of an inclusive community.
The idea of skepticism of authority will also prevail, even against myself, and significant outcry from the community will at least provoke a re-examination of certain decisions and actions, as well as full, rational explanations for the controversial decisions or actions.

You do need to be ready for a certain spammer.

You do need to be ready for a certain spammer. Who are you referring to?

You do need to be ready for a certain spammer. Who are you referring to? Vice President Mike, and/or a copycat has been spamming several AH related boards with NSFW images.

Vice President Mike, and/or a copycat has been spamming several AH related boards with NSFW images. Ah, yes, Usili just told me about them. We'll be on the lookout, and I'll try to keep the mods spread across timezones so someone's always available.

TBMK, VPM may be facing legal trouble for spamming with stuff I'm glad I did not see. I do think people shouldn't get kicked for making remarks "derailing threads". (Of course, it's noteworthy that I'm one of the people who got in trouble for that...a few times, compared to many times when I did and did not get in trouble.)

Yeah, kickings for derailing threads would be excessive, unless the derailment was repeated and/or on purpose, in which case it might be warranted.

One rules question. In political and nonpolitical chat, are we allowed to post articles? (There might be publishers who may get somewhat upset with us (and AH.com or other sites) over this.) If so, are we urged to give our views on the article?

You are permitted to post articles with links, and I would advise you to give some sort of comment on the articles posted, but I will not require it for the time being.

Hi guys. Hopefully it's not too late, but I'd like to chip in some guidelines (unofficial until codified, of course!) for DBWIs at some point, as a small way of contributing to the community.
