NOTE: This is an experimental run and things WILL break.
Welcome to the Spy Games! This is a new type of alt-history based game where instead of controlling a head of state, you get to control a spy who can change the fate of the future depending on their actions! Find and extract information from other nations, disable other players, and change the course of history!
*Disclaimer: the game is NOT going to be historically accurate, at least on this run. Feel free to correct me though in historical events.
This will likely be a 1 week/turn, with a cutoff date on Fridays.
Setting:
'Tis the year 1919, and war blooms in Asia. Japan's imperial inclinations are clawing for more Chinese soil, and Korean rebels are coming together for liberation. Russians are also interested; Perhaps if they use the Chinese and the Korean rebels to destablize the region, they may gain precious Manchuria. Britain also has contacts here, seeing who will give the most amount of money in arms trade, and an American businessman of moderate wealth also visits frequently. With politicians predicting a war by 1932, these following years in Shanghai will certainly be the most crucial in the history of East Asia...
Core Mechanics:
Every players are by default of an unknown nationality, and only race (white/Asian) is public. Every faction will share 2 units of Arms, and be able to assassinate someone every three turns provided you at least have 1 Arms. Assassination has a 16% chance of revealing your identity, 16% chance of failing without consequence, 33% of wounding, and 33% of killing. If you have two injuries, you will be dead. You may not assassinate other members of your nationality. Players should be cautious of revealing their nationality publicly, but may do so through actions such as leaving notes or meeting privately. Players can also invite one other over for a turn, and if accepted, they will be witnesses to any assassinations attempts on their hosts, and unless otherwise noted, also gets to roll. Only two pairs of players may be invited, but it is possible to invite another player of the same nationality. Invitations are public.
Players:
The Japanese Spy: As the most excellent operative from Japan, your primary mission would be to remain unidentified and assassinate all three Chinese Generals in Shanghai and eliminate completely all significant Koreans. You will be replaced should you die, but you are expected to work alone. Your unique ability is Extradition, in which you can decommission any players for a turn. If they are Koreans, they are immediately killed, but if British or an American is extradited, your identity will be revealed to the Chinese and whoever you extradited. Only one player maybe disabled through Extradition. Additional missions may arise. Challenge would be everyone hates you.
The Korean Rebel: As a desperate rebel from a country that is no more, your primary mission is to obtain 3 arms through a contract with either China or a Western Power, and survive the Japanese assassination attempts. You will have a partner, but if you two die, the Korean resistance movement will be lost. Your unique ability is Bombing, which allows you to attack two players at once, without a doubt killing them. Note that if a player is with another player when you bomb them, you will end up killing them too (This can potentially kill four players at once). Your identity (but not your partner's) will be revealed however. Challenge is getting attention, and surviving a powerful opponent without a strong ability. Note that you start with no units of arms, and cannot bomb without any Arms.
The Chinese Military: As a general in the mighty Chinese army, your mission would be to keep non-Japanese deaths low. You have two other generals who you trust deeply as friends, but with the current conflict in the internal government, they probably will not reinforce you with new generals. Your unique ability is House Arrest, which disables a player for a turn, but also prevents them from being attacked. If an assassination attempt occurs on the disabled player, it will simply say it failed. Note that the Chinese Military can still perform assassinations, even to those under House Arrest by another Chinese General. Only one player may be placed under House Arrest, and if the generals choose different people to use their ability at the same time, it will be first-come first serve. Additional missions may follow. Challenge here would be communication among players, both among other generals and with other players in general.
The Russian Revolutionary: As a ideological warrior raised in St.Petersburg, your mission is to become allies with either/both China and/or Korea, and eliminate the British and the American here. You work alone, and no reinforcements will come. Your unique ability is Sturdy, which allows you to take two stacks of wounds instead of one before death. Others will not know if you have a second stack of wounds, and the assailant will only know their attack failed without consequence. You only have 1 unit of arms.
The British Agent: As a subject to the Queen, you are tasked with causing instability in order to sell arms, which would imply killing lots of Asians in general. You also have 3 units of arms. Your unique ability is Investigative, choosing to identify a player's allegiance, and if you sacrifice a unit of arms, their current alliances with others. You will also be summoned back to Britain if you kill an American, which means you are counted as loss.
The American Businessman: As a businessman, you have very little to do politically. However, you have been requested by the federal government to make sure Japan does not expand its imperial possessions, and not let too many Asians die. You cannot assassinate anyone, and everyone will know you, but your special ability makes up for it; Your unique ability is Money Solves Everything: Every 3 turns you can either choose 3 charges of heals, which counteract wounds, or an additional count of arms (you have 0 when you start).
I am honestly not sure if this would work, and whether it actually can fall under alt-history game or something else, but I hope people are interested in this. Please feel free to ask clarifying questions!
If you are interested in doing this, leave me a pm; I will make an update once we have 9 players interested, and we'll get roles sorted. Stay tuned!
Current Player Count: 2/9
