I've heard many concerns from other people on the site that there are people who only sign up here to stir things up in the political discussion board without contributing to the main focus of the board - that is, the alternate history and alternate worlds discussion. While I'm sure that there are people innocent of this, who prefer to simply read the alt-hist stuff and only weigh in on off-topic threads, I think a post limit preventing people who have below a certain number of posts posting in the political chat could help to keep the political chat a more civil and welcoming place. I've seen people sign up on boards only to troll contentious topics too many times, and think that this change would be a good step to prevent it.

After fumbling around impotently with ProBoards' admin area for a while, I've discovered this would be very simple to do as you can set it so members need a minimum member rank (which are determined by post count) to view/post threads/reply/post polls in a board. So it would be as simple as making Political Discussion accessible only by people who are, say, Senior Members or higher, thus requiring 100 posts to access the board.
If the intent is to dissuade people from purely posting in the Political Discussion board and instead encourage them to post elsewhere, we could also make it so that posts in the Political Discussion board do not contribute to your post count. Does that sound like a good idea?

I can get behind this, with the caveat that I would lower the limit to perhaps fifty posts. A hundred strikes me as too much.

So, is there any opposition to the imposition of a 50 post limit being required to access the Political Discussion board, and also making it so that posts within the Political Discussion board do not contribute to a member's post count?

I personally oppose it, but I can't give a good counter-argument

But what about peoples who are mostly lurkes but who do contribute to the forum when they post.

But what about peoples who are mostly lurkes but who do contribute to the forum when they post. Then it'll take them a while to be able to participate in Political Discussion. They'll still be able to contribute to the important areas of the site freely.
