After some messing about on some test forums, we've come up with a new appearance for AltHistoria! This isn't planned to be the ultimate look of the forum, but it should give you a good idea of the style I'm going for - sleek, minimalist, black and white with gold highlights. I'm hoping to make a "dark" version for people who prefer that soon. We've also added a plugin that adds BBCode buttons (the font, font size, bold, italics, underlined, etc. buttons you see above the text field when writing a reply) above the Quick Reply box, so there's no need to go to another page if you want to add some formatting to your reply! There are still more planned changes coming soon - chief amongst them a proper set of rules, hierarchy of mods, and appeals system, but I'm also thinking of adding custom fields to users' profiles that will allow them to input a custom gender (presently you have to choose from "male" and "female", which is not ideal) and/or pronouns (useful for trans people, women who people keep assuming are men, and people whose usernames imply a different gender than theirs). I can make it so that these custom fields appear in your "mini-profile", the avatar and stuff that appears next to your post, so I was thinking of making the pronouns field appear there, so people can tell what pronouns to use by looking next to your post. Are those things that you all would want/approve of? Feel free to respond to this thread and let me know what you think, and if you have any suggestions.  |

I think that all sounds really great. I like the plugin and the look, and look forward to the gender and pronoun additions. Also, it's kind of a small and silly thing, but do you think we can have member "levels"? Like right now it seems like everyone is a new member. It'd be cool to have the little levels other sites have like "frequent poster" and "veteran". Kind of dumb, but I always like personal touches like that.

Ah, my mistake then. Are they customizable, though? Yes - at the moment I've customised the names a bit, but I haven't changed the amounts needed at all. I'll look into revamping it so there's at least one more tier low down that people can conceivably reach at this early point in this site's history. |

As an aside, why is the announcement subforum only temporary? It seems it would be a good place to outline the rules of the board and such.
