Good evening people.
In case you didn't already know, the country of Japan tends to group years together under labels depending on what Emperor reigned. The current reign of Akihito is known as the Heisei (平成) era, before him the Showa (昭和) under his father Hirohito, then in turn, the Taisho (大正) under his father Yoshihito, and before that, The Meiji (明治) under his father Mutsuhito and the list goes on.
Would anyone care to speculate what the next era of Japan would possibly be called under Akihito's son Naruhito? Fill me in with your speculations. I think a name like Kaihei (凯平) meaning "triumphant peace" has potential.

This is a thread I want to see pushed to the top, now that Emperor Akihito is considering retirement

As someone who's somewhat familiar with the Japanese language, I think the best one would be Kowaishi (強石), which means "Sturdy Stone" of which refers to Japan's resilence to foreign aggression (mainly China's) and the stone being in a sea of powerful waves that still stands. It's a metaphor to the rising tensions in the South China sea and in Asia in general and to Japan's recent remilitarization.

I like this idea - though there's the potential for it to be too political, no? And also a little too present-time-relevant? Something with broader themes than present political issues might be more appropriate.
... not that I have any better suggestions, but y'know.

I like that you added "go" (強) to the variety of possible (Sino) Japanese words as for what could possibly make up the name for the next era of the country. Maybe not "sturdy rock", but maybe something like "sturdy spirit".
