In OTL, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is the rogue state infamous for crazy totalitarianism, a batshit insane dictator, a crazy amount of militarism, and incredibly shitty living standards, so what alternate countries do you think have the possibility to become their world's version of North Korea?

Eritrea right now is actually not to far off from NK, the only reason we don't care about Eritrea is because they're not threading a neighbor and a superpower with nuclear war.
East Germany certainly had the potential if the government remained as brutal as it once was.

Jonestown, for it's short life span, was very North Korea-esque. If it could have endured it would have been like North Korea in a city-state format.
If Israel leaned towards the Soviet Union after it's foundation then, with the right amount of changes, they could end up as a very isolated state after the USSR collapses.

Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge certainly met the "batshit insanity" requirements. According to their philosophy people living in urban areas were inherently capitalist to a degree, so they evacuated all urban areas (even the capital, Phnom Penh) and used rationing to systematically starve the former city-dwellers. Their regime came to an end when they provoked conflict with Vietnam, who invaded and removed their government. If they hadn't provoked Vietnam or if the Vietnam War had gone differently it's possible that they might survive as a North Korea-esque hellish state to the modern era.

An Afrikaner state who hates everyone who's not white after a bloody collapse of Apartheid South Africa, a technical "Fourth Reich" just so you know.

I know, the Nazis just adopted the Reich successor thing just to appeal to German patriotism.

What about a Belarus which doesn't give up it's nukes and remains communist or becomes crazy ultra-nationalist?

I could see a Communist Albania trying to hang on. (Perhaps they could threaten Yugoslavia or Serbia over Kosovo.) I do also see a different alternate North Korea...under the rule of Sun Myung Moon...

I just learned about how crazy Turkmenistan is. I can imagine them going the way of North Korea if they decide to direct their insanity is the form of aggression toward nearby states, like, for example, Uzbekistan.

What about a Niyazov-esque figure arising in Kazakhstan then and refuses to give it's nukes? Imagine if Kim Jong-un had access to hundreds of nukes, that is what an insane Kazakstan would be like.

Outside of Stalin, most of his inner circle lived for a long period of time. Molotov, for example, died at 96 in 1986. So it wouldn't be too ASB to have Stalin remain in power for much longer, or have him succeeded by the aforementioned long lasting Molotov. A continued Stalinist USSR would certainly fit North Korea levels of insanity (As well as keep the Communist bloc united in terms of Sino-Soviet relations).

Maybe if the Nazis escaped to Argentina/Antarctica/the Moon and created a Hermit state based on National Socialism and worshipped Hitler as a God, that would be an interesting ATL DPRK

What about Belarus? It is seen OTL as the "Last Dictatorship in Europe", so maybe a Belarus which doesn't give up it's nukes could become a "European North Korea"?
