as most of you probably know, Red Dawn was about an invasion by the Soviet Union, which was viewed as the biggest threat to the USA. however, what if Red Dawn were created in another time period? who would the baddies be? What would it be called? For Example: WW1 Era=Imperial Germany, WW2 Era= Imperial Japan (West Coast) or Nazi Germany (East Coast) it doesn't have to be just the USA. it could also be a different nation. for example: what if Red Dawn were made in the early 1800s in Britain rather than America? have fun

Red Dawn is basically Cold War invasion fiction, which was rare enough in the period since the main theme was always on the big ass bombs rather than a ground invasion. One of the earliest and most famous pieces of invasion fiction was The Battle of Dorking, in which Britain is invaded by a German speaking antagonist, with the empire being destroyed as a result. Though apparently earlier works involved the UK being invaded from France via hot air balloon. I suppose a universe where Operation Downfall occurred would basically be the Japanese take on a Red Dawn scenario.

There was going to be a version of Red Dawn set in the early 21st century where China is the role of the invader but of course Chinese moviegoer money dictates that should not be, so and lo and behold North Korea took its place.
Though I do have an idea of an expanded ISIS that invades Europe that got economically and socially devastated by a war against Russia. Might be a more feasible and somewhat more believable than the 2012 Red Dawn film.

Maybe Indian "Red Dawn" could involve an ultra-nationalist regime with Islamist elements in Pakistan invading India "to liberate our Muslim brothers groaning under the Hindu yoke".
