Hello once again fellow board members. Here, I would to discuss another possibility, that being that rather than the fall of Western Rome as in OTL, Eastern Rome (Byzantium) collapses first. I think one significant difference for such a timeline would be that the Islamic Caliphate will have an even easier time conquering everything in its path without Byzantium acting as a significant barrier. Without Byzantium, there will be no Eastern Orthodox Church, meaning that practically everywhere in Eastern Europe (Russia included) would likely be Muslim. Western Rome would be able to hold on for a little while longer before finally being conquered by Muslim forces after a couple centuries.
Anyone else care to speculate as to what differences could potentially occur from our timeline?

Depending on how fast they die and who they fall to, their might be a chance Islam wouldn't actually rise outside of the Arabian Peninsula. One of the main reasons the Arabs were so successful was because the massive Byzantine and Sassanian Empires were at constant war to the point that they used up much of their resources, to the point they weren't able to defend against the Arab invasions. The Arabs were only really able to rise because of such massive warfare between their enemies. Had the Sassanians successfully conquered and held land in much of the Byzantine empire, the Arabs might have been beaten back, or Mecca might have been conquered by them before the Prophet Muhammad was even born.

Yeah, the rise of Islam and its military successes are far from certain after whatever PoD could cause the Eastern Roman Empire to fall earlier than the West. If we're going to discuss what might result with any certainty we'd need to figure out what the PoD would be and how the Eastern Roman Empire would collapse - which unfortunately I'm not knowledgeable enough to do.

One PoD I've used for such a scenario is that Attila focuses entirely on Byzantines, enough so that they basically militaristically and economically collapsed, and was conquered by various Germanic tribes. In this scenario though, I still have the Muslim eventually rise

What about a series of more competent Sassanid Shahs in the 5th century?
