Was there a chance that France, being distracted by the major European conflict in the War of Spanish Succession, would somehow lose their control of New France to Britain? Did England (later Britain) had a chance of conquering New France during the early 1700s? It might depend on how densely populated the British colonies in the Eastern Starboard was, and did it have a chance of recruiting soldiers into the English (later British) Army?
I think that perhaps a different treaty similar to the Treaty of Utrecht would have been like this should the French actually win decisively over the anti-French coalition:
- The Coalition recognizes the new Bourbon dynasty over Spain, with Philip, Duke of Anjou, as Philip V of Spain and Philip VII of France. However, France has to renounce control of New France to Britain as the price for acquiring the Spanish throne.
- The Dutch Republic acquires the former Spanish Netherlands from Spain. Austria in exchange would get Sicily, and also gains Naples as a protectorate.
