On September 2, 1944, George H.W. Bush's plane was shot down on a mission over the Japanese island of Chichijima. He survived and was rescued by a US submarine. Of the eight other American airmen shot down that day, all were captured and executed on the orders of the Japanese commander, General Yoshio Tachibana (later executed as a war criminal), and four were later butchered, and had their thigh meat and livers eaten by the senior Japanese commanders of the island.
Suppose Bush had been killed when his plane was shot down, or captured and met a similar fate to his comrades? How would American politics develop, and what would be the US reaction when it emerges the son of a prominent family was cannibalized?

Kennedy Jr. died i guess.

Ronald Reagan would look for a moderate running mate in 1980. I am thinking it would be Howard Baker. Who goes on to be President 1989 - 1993. Since George W Bush is never born, I see John McCain getting the Republican nomination in 2000. He wins the election. Because there is no DU scandal, he is a war hero not draft dodger as well being more articulate than George W Bush, he wins the popular vote and carries Florida, with no recount, Wisconsin, Iowa and New Mexico.

Much like the Kennedys, Prescott Bush may pressure William or Jonathan Bush to go into politics.

And what about the Bush brothers. Not sure, but Prescott Bush seems the type to me. But he died in 1972 so he is not a candidate to replace George.
