Beneath Columbia, South Carolina April 29, 2016
Acting President Taylor paced back and forth in the office in his bunker. In the two days since the nuking of Columbia, he had received no word from the outside world. All communications systems appeared to have failed. Taylor had no way of giving orders and no way of knowing what was happening outside. He could only hope the bunker's food supplies could last him and his staff long enough for the radiation to drop to levels low enough to get out.

Charles Oswald III was on the verge of winning. All of the remaining unoccupied states in North America had recognized him as president. All that was left was make peace with the Empire and he was set. First, he had to find a way to contact their leadership...

"Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the New United States of America"
The camera cut to President Charles Oswald III on a podium.
"To the leaders and people of the so-called British Empire. I know you've found a way to tune into our televisor channels, so I'm addressing you."
"There is no doubt that this has been a terrible war. Millions of young men on both sides have lost their lives in this senseless conflict. But it doesn't have to be this way. I am offering a way out."
"I am humbly requesting an armistice between the New United States of America and the British Empire. Together, we can end the bloodshed and start a new era of peaceful coexistence."
"I invite the leadership of the Empire to come to Atlanta to discuss peace terms. Then, we can put this madness behind us for good."
"Good night, and All Hail!"

Ranganathan turned off the television. He and the rest of the cabinet had just finished listening to Oswald's offer.
"So" said Harris. "What do we tell them?"
Ranganathan only had to think for a second before replying. "We tell them to go to hell."

"Ladies and Gentlemen" began Ranganathan as he stepped up to the podium. "No doubt you have all heard NUSA's offer of peace. They promise that they'll cease hostilities and accept peaceful coexistence."
"But we know that's a lie. By now most of us are familiar with NUSA's history. There is no doubt that once they regain their strength, they will restart the conflict."
"We cannot allow that. Indeed, we will not stop until NUSA lies completely broken and unable to menace anyone ever again."
"That is all. Thank you and goodnight."

Oswald threw a paperweight at the TV in frustration, shattering the screen. The Empire had refused his offer of peace, and now he looked like a fool. Now he had no choice but to continue this war.

Goldfein smirked as he watched Ranganathan's speech. Just as he had predicted, the Empire had refused Oswald's offer of peace. Now, Charles Oswald III was destined to fall.

"Good evening, my fellow Americans" said Oswald as he addressed the gathered crowd. "As you know, I have attempted to reach out to the Empire and establish peace." He paused for a second. "Unfortunately, they refused."
Oswald watched as a wave of anger swept over the crowd. "We shall show them the error of their ways!" he shouted. "We shall grind them under our heels until they beg for mercy! As your president, I shall not rest until these devils have been vanquished!"
By now, the crowd was chanting "NUSA forever!" "Death to the Empire" and "Glory to God and Oswald!" "Now" he finished. "Get out there and show those bastards what true patriotism is!"

Major General Bernard Helms heard the president's words, but didn't register them. Helms knew his situation was hopeless-right now it was just him, his men and the ~12,000 Britons who had been left in the city when the Americans took it.
However, Helms was determined to go down fighting. It was the American way. He had already ordered his men to begin the extermination of the British population. They may have been fellow Anglo-Saxons, but they were traitors to their race in Helms's eyes, and he was determined to leave none behind.

Zane was getting closer to Hollande's forces in southern Michigania. He could see the ruined city of Shicagwa on the horizon.
He knew all about the bomb in the city. Zane could only hope that there wasn't another.

It had finally happened. Photographers were on hand to record the meeting between Major General David Zane and General Guillame Hollande.
The two had chosen a meeting place on the outskirts due to the residual radiation in the city center. Nonetheless, it was a powerful morale booster for the Canadian Forces.

General Lord popped the top on his champagne bottle as he watched the Union Jack being raised over Signal Hill. After 18 days, the British had managed to break through the American defenses and overrun their forces. Major General Helms had been found in an apartment building. He had attempted to shoot himself in the head when the British came knocking, but only succeeding in lobotomizing himself. Most of Lord's troops were content to let Helms die, but Lord believed it would be more humiliating to take him alive. Therefore, he had ordered that Helms be nursed back to health so that he could be sent back to Britain as a prisoner.

Gibraltar May 17, 2016
The city of Gibraltar may have been back in British hands, but General Lord was not through yet.
Next, the British had to establish a foothold on the other side of the strait, to ensure safe passage of Imperial ships. To that end, Lord had ordered the North Front Airport, which had been damaged in the fighting, rebuilt to accommodate RAF aircraft. Once the British forces had rested up, they would land in American-held Morocco and fight their way south until they had conquered a sufficient portion of Moroccan territory.
As Lord went over his plans, one of the doctors assigned to care for the captive Major General Helms walked into the room. "Sir, Mr. Helms is awake" the doctor said.
"Good" replied Lord. "We need him to answer for the 1,000 people killed on his orders before we recaptured this place."

Ceuta, Morocco Police Zone May 30, 2016
The British had chosen Ceuta for the site of their next landing. American resistance was strong as expected, but at the same time British could tell they were starting to become weary. Most Americans units were wiped out after fierce yet brief fighting. The unrestricted submarine warfare campaign had succeeded in all but eliminating NUSA's ability to supply its forces in occupied territories.

Prime Minster Ranganathan groaned as he scrolled through the front page of Conscience, the "news" website so radical it made Labour look reasonable. Usually, the site was good for a laugh, but today's opinion piece made him angry. They were arguing against trying Major General Helms for his crimes, arguing that his diminished mental capacity made him unfit for trial.
Clearly, Conscience had never stopped to consider the magnitude of Helms's crimes. To Ranganathan, it didn't matter what Helms's current mental state was-the fact was that he was perfectly lucid when he ordered the death of thousands of British citizens.

Charles Oswald III put his signature on the latest list of Taylor supporters marked for purging. He was determined to make ORRA loyal to him and only him.
ORRA wasn't the only thorn in his side. While most of the remaining NUSA population in North America supported him at least tentatively, there were still many calling for his removal. And there was also the small matter of the June 20 plotters controlling South America.
Oswald whistled to himself as he handed the list to a secretary. Despite the immense pressure he was under, Oswald had done his keep up a positive face for his subordinates.

General Bruce Mayfield, Chief of the General Staff stared at the map of Europe. He and the rest of the British Army's top brass were wondering where to go next. Personally, Mayfield favored an invasion of France. From intelligence, he knew that the American forces in northern France were in a very poor situation in terms of materiel and morale. Neutralizing them would remove a major threat to the British Isles.

Major Valentin Barisov took aim at an American soldier and splattered his brains all over the pavement. For years, the Americans and Muscovites had been locked in a nightmarish stalemate in the ruins of Finland. But now, with America's control of Scandinavia beginning to slip, the Muscovites were finally beginning to make progress.

Goldfein rubbed his head as he got up from his chair. He had a special guest today.
"Good evening, reverend" said Goldfein as Albert Mohler walked in. "What brings you here?"
"I somehow ended up on Chuckie's list of people to kill" replied Mohler.
"We need you" said Goldfein. "You're the one who controls the AFC."
"Actually, I don't anymore" said Mohler. "But we can rebuild it here."
