I wasn't sure whether to put this in Polichat or here, but I'm curious about cased of large-scale inflation and government attempts to try to hide the effects from it's own people. Most notably, the example I thought of, was print several billion dollars/ euros/ whatever, but then just ship the majority of the freshly printed money off overseas, Marshall-plan style. I want to know if hiding something like this could be theoretically possible, however unlikely.

Weimar Germany had the Oeffa bill scheme, which was the model for the far more extensive MEFO bill scheme which put billions of reichsmark into circulation. In both cases shell corporations were used to stimulate the economy and hide government deficits. By the time MEFO bills stopped being issued there were 12 billion reichsmark worth in circulation compared to 19 billion reichsmark of official bonds.
