President Trump originally favored Chris Christie as a running mate. They had a good relationship and he did not know Mike Pence very well. More importantly Christie had been loyal to him. According to the article in the in weeks NewYorker,"The President Pence Delusion, Trump was talked into naming Pence by aides who thought Pence would be a better bridge builder to social conservatives and to the Koch Brothers. Some were also worried about Bridge-gate. What if Trump did choose Chris Christie. One possible POD is that the Access Hollywood tape become public earlier. The article says that both Pence and his wife were disgusted by the contents of the tape and that the future Vice President thought about resigning from the ticket. So if he heard those comments right before he was approached to be on the ticket, he probably would have said no. While Vice Presidential candidates usually don't have much an effect on Presidential elections, there would have been a constant discussion on Bridge-gate. It would have come up in the Kaine Christie debate. This somewhat shrinks Trumps evangelical support. I think it would have been enough to switch .9% of the vote in Florida, .7% of the vote in Pennsylvania, .2 of the vote in Michigan and .6% of the vote in Wisconsin. Hillary wins with 307 electoral votes. She does not brag about winning in a landslide. There is a Democrat President and a Republican Congress. There are also angry Trump supporters. The defeated candidate claims he lost because of illegal alien votes.
