When OTL future president Jimmy Carter’s father died in 1953, he decided to leave the Navy and run the family business. He would get involved in the community get elected to the school board, state senate, governorship and presidency. Billy was sixteen at the time of his father’s death. What if James Earl Sr. had passed away in 1963. That was the year OTL Billy turned twenty six and took over the farm and peanut warehouse while Jimmy went to the state senate. So ITTL Jimmy Carter stays in the Navy, retires as Chief of Naval Operations and does not go I to politics. So who wins the 1976 Democratic Presidential nomenclature nation ITTL? How are the 1976 and 1980 presidential elections effected?

Sorry I did not catch they typos. The last three sentences should read: Jimmy Carter stays in the Navy, retires as Chief of Naval Operations and does not go into politics. So who wins the 1976 Democratic Presidential nomination ITTL? How are the 1976 and 1980 presidential elections effected?

Well there's enough time for some big butterflies but IIRC the last man opposing him in the Democrats was the Californian Governor Jerry Brown so he might be a good probability. He would very likely win his state which would give the largest number of delegates of any state and with the reaction against the Republicans after Watergate I think any Democrat would have had a good chance to win so you could probably see President Brown.
Although looking at his Wiki entry he actually finished 3rd behind Carter and Morris Udall, who could also have been in with a good chance. Not sure how things would have gone without Carter however.

Brown only ran in the later primaries. So I go withUdall. Lloyd Bentsen is his running mate. Udall loses the general election. He carries: Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, West Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota,Washington, Oregon and Hawaii for 199 electoral votes. In 1980, there is still a recession but there is no hostage because the Ford Administration provided more military aid to the Shah and he stays in power. Although there is a bloody civil war in Iran. Democratic candidature Walter Mondale , running mate Hugh Kerry, makes effective use of Republican candidate Ronald Reagan's, running George HW Bush, unpopular views like his opposition to Medicare. Mondale wins carrying Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, West Virginia, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Washington, Oregon, California and Hawaii for 319 electoral votes. Can someone do maps? I can't.
