Seems like we might as well have a thread for this.
Anybody watching the GOP debate tonight? Who do you think will come out on top?

Can we not do this? lets just post every time we find something interesting. The unified political threads on the other site were just awful

I like unified threads, at least for some things. It won't be as hard to keep up with with less posters, though you can argue that that also means less need for a unified thread. But I think it's nice for people to post articles in that don't really need their own thread.
Anyways, I can't handle watching GOP debates anymore.

I thought about pulling up a streaming site to check it out but they usually piss me off. I'll probably just read a summary afterwards.

Sticky'd. Remember to keep it civil.

The media reaction/spin afterwards is more important to the horse race anyways.

The debate made me realize one thing: none of these candidates are very impressive

The debate made me realize one thing: none of these candidates are very impressive Of all the candidates, I'd say Marco Rubio is the only one with a halfway decent chance of defeating Clinton or Sanders.

Anybody could defeat Sanders. I could beat him, and I'm not even eligible yet.

Sticky'd. Remember to keep it civil. Thanks, but I'm not sure if stickying it is the right decision. You can't sticky every country's thread.

I think Sanders would be able to defeat Trump, Carson, Fiorina, Cruz, Huckabee, or Santorum.
He's not going to win the nomination though, so we'll never really know for sure.

Almost anyone could beat Sanders once the actual campaign starts (they've not even gotten close to starting), but yeah I guess. Rubio looks nice, but comes off as a bit of a lightweight. I wonder how he'd actually hold up.

On the surface Rubio looks like a really strong candidate, but I feel like he won't seem that way in the end.

People know who Trump is and they know they don't want him. When the average voter is presented with Trump and Sanders they pick Sanders, despite not knowing who he is, because he is not Trump. If it actually came down to Sanders V Trump in an actual election who knows what might happen.

Head to head polls this far out don't mean anything. They don't have any predictive power until it's clear who the nominees of the 2 major parties are.
Personally I think that the polls saying people won't vote for a socialist won't hold up if we are talking about a Sanders that has beaten Clinton and is the Democratic nominee. He likely wouldn't be as strong of a general candidate as Clinton, but I think he wouldn't be that far off. I think we're polarized enough that there's not a ton of persuadable voters out there.

I'm sometimes a pessimist, and I think a number of Republicans COULD defeat Sanders and Clinton. Still, I think if Sanders gets the nod, he could win, despite DNC people jumping ship and the media treating him like chopped liver. Meanwhile, if Clinton doesn't shoot herself in the foot and other body parts, she could win too.

They don't want him to be nominated because they think he's unelectable, but they certainly prefer him to any Republican.

I, oddly enough don't care about this election all that much. Election 2016 just seems like the election in which we try to keep America on life support for 4 more years so that we can procrastinate on anything approaching systemic reform either domestic or international. I'll probably vote for Clinton, just because, but i'm gonna have to force myself to the polls.

I'm going to have to shut up (hopefully) about some aspects in a month or so, since I am still hoping to work as a pollworker- which means I'll have to be neutral.
