There are ample questions about Clinton's email still outstanding. This article documents at least seven ways the FBI proved that Clinton lied. thehill.com/policy/national-security/287052-seven-ways-fbi-contradicted-clintons-email-claimsSo now there is a push to question Clinton under oath, thanks to the only right-wing anti-Clinton and anti-Obama group that was honest enough to fight the Bush Administration, Judicial Watch. (Health to them- may they give her a ticket to FMC Carswell.) www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/conservative-group-asks-permission-to-question-clinton-under-oath-about-email/2016/07/08/d0539504-4542-11e6-bc99-7d269f8719b1_story.htmlA leading contender for Trump's VP is former general Michael Flynn. He's a former head of the DIA who was forced out of power thanks to our shifting sides in the war on Al-Quaida. He views the Iraq and Libya wars as a mistake: www.spiegel.de/international/world/former-us-intelligence-chief-discusses-development-of-is-a-1065131.htmlHe documented our support for Salafists and Jihadists in Syria: levantreport.com/2015/08/06/former-dia-chief-michael-flynn-says-rise-of-islamic-state-was-a-willful-decision-and-defends-accuracy-of-2012-memo/He calls for working more closely with Russia. Thus, he's probably one of the best choices to shift our foreign policy. As Justin Raimondo and Ron Paul view him, "he's no non-interventionist. But he does make the connection between the US invasion of Iraq and the creation of ISIS and other terrorist organizations, and he at least urges us to consider why they seek to attack us.” original.antiwar.com/justin/2016/07/10/general-michael-flynn/And did I mention he's a registered Democrat, who favors abortion and is not opposed to same-sex marriage? abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-vp-pick-flynn-supports-abortion-rights-woman/story?id=40465180I'm not likely to vote for Trump because of him (Then again, most VP choices have turned me off, not on), but I do think he's the best choice for a VP on the Republican side- even better than Rand or Ron Paul, Dana Rohrabacher or Walter Jones! (And, better, if he gets picked, some of Clinton's foreign policy actions will come under harsh scrutiny.) The only downside might be the formation of a Religious Right party instead of the GOP in many areas (I think Franklin Graham's moves may be a foreboding of this). This would likely not control the country, but may take over several states. In other news, the NRA is under fire for response to the police shootings- and it's not how you think. After the Philando Castile shooting, members of the NRA on their own have been criticizing the NRA for refusing to defend Castile and his right to bear arms. The Second Amendment Foundation made a statement condemning the shooting by police of Castile. www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2016/07/09/the-nras-internal-revolt-over-philando-castile/?utm_term=.206660672067

Well, Sanders sold out and backed Clinton today. (This despite Jill Stein offering him the lead position on the Green ticket.) www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/jul/08/jill-stein-bernie-sanders-green-partyClinton made numerous promises, which I wish someone would keep track of. It's likely she'll break many of them. (That said, Politifact was more than unwilling to mark several of Obama's promises as broken, so even if someone keeps track, they'll likely lie.) Trump is expected to announce his VP in a day or two. Meanwhile, there is a rumor for Clinton's VP- he's in a similar vein as the choice above, only he's been on the wrong side of some foreign policy. He's James Stavridis, former SACEUR (I.E. head of NATO). That said, he may not be a fan of Turkey, as his grandfather was forced out of Smyrna/Izmir long ago. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_G._Stavridis

Well, Pence was introduced to the public as the new VP today. From what I heard while working, there were quite a few biblical references (mostly standard*) and Reagan references. Trump said Pence was his first choice, based in part on "party unity". Pence is semi-popular on the Religious Right and Tea Party side. He backed going into Iraq, which Trump now opposes. Some Religious Rightists are upset at Pence for toning down his "religious freedom" (I.E. a religion-based license to discriminate) bill. As for one person I backed, I have now changed my mind. Apparently Michael Flynn believes in a rather convoluted conspiracy in which Islamists are in a vast plot with Russia**, Cuba, China, North Korea and Venezuela to destroy the USA. He says Islamists are out to "drink our blood", despite human flesh and blood not being halal. He's open to torture. In short, while he was present when the US was either playing both sides (or switching sides) in the War on Terror, and can confirm the DIA report that should sink Clinton (and McCain, Graham and Cotton) were it to be covered, he's got some rather questionable ideas, to say the least. theintercept.com/2016/07/13/an-interview-with-lt-gen-michael-flynn/Clinton may announce her pick next Friday. I'm betting it may get leaked earlier. Lastly, one of the most disconcerting bits of news came today, in which a poll I heard about in which 85% of Sanders supporters backed Clinton- and 9% backed Trump, leaving only 6% to either back the honest candidates, not vote or be unsure. * Seriously, most right-wing political figures have set verses they love using. If I go into politics, I may bring up some of Lamentations 3 and James 5, as well as other not-so-well-known verses and passages which will make people surprised that what I quote is in the Bible. (Footnote: A long time ago, I was quoting James 5 after the Bush bailout was defeated in a post on a different forum. I was pleased when a guy known as "Godless Communist" replied with a simple, "AMEN!") ** With the exceptions of Alexander Litvinenko (who blamed Russians for 7/7), Boris Berezovsky (who a British judge called out for his dishonesty) and their cronies, and possibly Hollywood scriptwriters, nobody in their right mind believes that. Russia has been fighting Islamists in Chechnya for years- to say nothing of Syria for the past few.

That article also points out one thing that I really want to underline, that Terrorism (at least in the US) is still an incredibly minor killer compared to nearly everything else.

That article also points out one thing that I really want to underline, that Terrorism (at least in the US) is still an incredibly minor killer compared to nearly everything else. Indeed. While I have known several people touched by terrorism (I have met someone online whose boyfriend made it home covered in dust after 9/11, and a classmate was in Centennial Park when Eric Rudolph's bomb went off, to say nothing of my former bosses visiting Kurdistan), and live in the area of what was considered a terror attack (The "Fallen Angel" ricin dropoff at a mail processing facility), the average American has less to fear from terrorism than, say, crime, random mass shootings, fires, floods, lightning, tornadoes, car accidents, train accidents, plane crashes, and with a 1 in 3 chance of it happening...dying in bed.

Well, the leaks just keep on coming! A superpac was paying young voters to troll Sanders supporters. wikileaks.org/dnc-emails/emailid/8351Dems are spreading the conspiracy theory that Cruz's dad may have shot JFK. pbs.twimg.com/media/CoEyctWXgAQW2XF.jpgDems tried to spread an anti-Sanders article involving the Nevada smears "without attribution". wikileaks.org/dnc-emails/emailid/9423Interim head of DNC Donna Brazile is no Sanders fan. wikileaks.org/dnc-emails/emailid/7022And, in part thanks to the leaks (Yes, Julian Assange is still around (unlike Daniel Domscheit-Berg), still relevant, still accurate (unlike Eliot Higgins and Dan Kaszeta*) and still fighting), DWS is out of the DNC. Health to Tim Canova. * Who are now trying to accuse Russia of being behind the leaks. (TBMK they're not, but even if they were, sauce for the gander is sauce for the goose. She tried to undermine the elected government of Putin, so I don't mind her undemocratic elevation being undermined.) Keep them coming, Julian! Bernie or bust!

Fun coincidence (I'll take humor when I can). When the AP news alert came that Clinton was nominated, I was listening to this: (This is a political song, BTW. The title is derived from the National Voter Registration Act (The "Motor Voter" Bill), and has references to "Bush-whacked" and "Ollie".) When the news alert came that Sanders was wanting the convention to name Clinton as the nominee, I was listening to this song, also political, both when it was originally done and later. (BTW, the "Ed Colbert" predates Steven. I'm not sure if the reference to "Doctor Who" was intentional.) In other news, some media outlets are criticizing one of Clinton's celebrity supporters...for backing Taylor Swift over Kim Kardashian. Seriously. (Oddly, they are not criticizing Swift's friend Lena Dunham (DNC Speaker and Clinton endorser), or West's supporters Demi Lovato (also a DNC speaker) and Katy Parry (Campaigned for Clinton since Iowa). And given West's misogyny (Why would a self-described feminist want to back the guy who did the bridge on her song "E.T."?) and ego, I would think he'd be more like Trump.) www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/07/25/chloe-grace-moretz-the-scott-baio-of-hillary-clinton-s-dnc.html

Ain't the first time we had a foreign government trying to target various US elected officials and media leaders who did not do their bidding- with US Government knowledge! (I am of course referring to British Security Coordination.) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Security_Co-ordinationOf course this may lead to Trump being charged under one of the last few bits of the infamous John Adams administration left in law, the Logan Act. (Shame. It's an unconstitutional restriction on freedom of speech. Politics should include the water's edge and beyond.) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logan_ActLast night, Gavin Newsom praised Ronald Reagan at the DNC. Really and truly. (The only other president quoted as much as Reagan at the convention was Harry the Haberdasher (Appropriate for the guy who got the VP slot thanks to DNC manipulation from a political crony). The Democrats have a police chief speaking denouncing the "war on cops" despite police deaths per year being lower than the 1970's or 1980's (said chief got DC fined $2 million for mass arrests of protesters in 2002). Mark Kelley praised the Iraq War. (My opinion of him just tanked. Anyone praising going to war with Iraq is not someone I would trust with anything.) One news story that got some attention was that HRC and various state parties tried to raise money together- only Hillary was keeping most (as in all but .5%) of the money. www.politico.com/story/2016/07/dnc-leak-clinton-team-deflected-state-cash-concerns-226191The story had been broken earlier, not by a professional journalist, but by someone best known for playing a journalist from a great metropolitan newspaper. Needless to say, it was ignored, and she was mocked. www.counterpunch.org/2016/04/01/how-hillary-clinton-bought-the-loyalty-of-33-state-democratic-parties/Meanwhile, a lot of people are being drawn to Jill Stein. Hopefully this will stake the two-party system in the heart. In other politics news, the official Democratic Senate PAC is spending $1 million to back ex-Republican Patrick Murphy over Democrat Alan Grayson. (If I were Grayson, I'd consider going Green.) thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/senate-races/287881-democratic-super-pac-to-launch-ad-campaign-supporting-murphyA side note: It used to be that Presidents and others did not get into primaries on a lower level unless there was something desperate, like Republicans backing anyone but David Duke. Then, back in 2002, George W. Bush made an endorsement in the primary for SC Adjutant General Stan Spears, in exchange for Spears's endorsement of him in 2000. Now, it appears to be more common. As for Taylor, I need to do a separate post on that. One more thing I forgot. There was an article on a shirt in which a cartoon character (Margaret from (the US's) Dennis The Menace) was predicting there would someday be a woman president. Wal-Mart had it for a time, but a buyer had it pulled from the shelves as it "didn't represent family values". This was back in 1995. The thing most media outlets don't mention? Guess who was on Wal-Mart's board from 1986 to 1992? The first female presidential nominee from one of the official two parties. www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/election/article92077597.html

Well, apparently Jill Stein is an anti-vaxxer. Sigh, and she was likely the one I was going to vote for her. That leaves me with like a 50-50 chance of me voting Johnson or Clinton.
I'm not really a big fan of a Libertarian small government. I understand the appeal and why one would vote for them, I just personal prefer to have a larger government, but preferably that big government would be led by someone other than, well, just about any candidate running.
*sigh* Why couldn't have Ventura or Bloomberg run?

The neocons are flocking to Clinton's banner after the convention...good riddance, I say.
Never thought I might see the day when Republicans would become the doves, but that will happen if Trump becomes the future of the GOP.
