((The way this works is that all five members of the UN Security Council - which is to say the USA, USSR, UK, France, and at this time the Republic of China (Taiwan) vote on this issue. We ignore non-permanent members for simplicity's sake. A no-vote is a veto, you may abstain if you wish. So we need Smyg, Mooncat, and istanbul to post their votes, after which I'll roleplay as the Republican Chinese delegation.))

The Soviet Union votes in favour of this proposal. We are deeply concerned with the situation. Should Mr. Lumumba, the lawful Prime Minister of the Congo, not be immediately released and reinstated, there will be severe consequences.

Umar Lutfi, Permanent Representative to the United NationsUnited Arab Republic
Delegates of the United Nations, Since the end of the Second World War, it has been widely recognized that the age of colonialism and imperialism is at an end, and that sentiments in favor of the reign of one people over another are to be left in the past. And yet, though all nations belonging to this assembly claim to act as brothers in shared humanity, a vast swath of the world -the so-called Global South- remains under the political, economic, and social domination of the more-prosperous nations. Is this just? Many would disagree, and disagree they should: we are seeing, in front of our very eyes, the stagnation of human progress under the heel of two superpowers and their assorted allies. What is to be done, then? Action, the United Arab Republic believes, must be taken. We echo the international calls for peaceful decolonization, and submit this to the United Nations General Assembly for voting, away from the veto of the current Great Powers.
The United Arab Republic votes yes.

"The United States would support the Resolution as a whole, but we cannot condone this resolution to be passed. The definition itself of 'the Islamic world' is itself tricky, for what truly defines the Islamic world? Would that include the countries where Islam is itself a majority of the population of the nation? Or would it be defined as just a plurality? Extending upon the questions that are had, the full inclusion of the Islamic world into the regions dedicated for decolonization, is one that we cannot support for the bias to be given under such a Special Committee. If such a resolution were to be presented being exactly the same as this resolution, with just representatives from the four aforementioned regions and not including the Islamic world, we would vote yes on it. Due to the inclusion of it, the United States must sadly vote no on this resolution."

The State of Israel questions whether this resolution was made in good faith. Many nations in the Islamic world refuse to recognize the right of the Jewish people to have a homeland in Palestine. Terrorists who kill innocent Israeli citizens are supported and harbored by many of these countries, who have made it no secret that they wish to drive the Israeli people "into the sea". It is ludicrous that these very same countries should have special powers with regards to decolonization, when they are against the Jew's rightful self-determination.
Therefore, the State of Israel votes no on the resolution, and calls on other nations to do the same.

The French Republic firmly condemns such a resolution as a detriment to the state and the people of France. This resolution, as it stands, would benefit terrorists and separatists in their fight to dismantle liberty, equality and brotherhood throughout the world. Many of these countries despise the values of France and the rest of the western world. Included with this is the special treatment afforded to members of the Islamic faith provided by this resolution. We believe no one creed should be awarded preferential treatment over any other. Thus, the French Republic vote no to this resolution.

"The United States would hereby like to submit an amendment to modify an operative clause of the United Nations resolution on the table. The first 'resolution' indicates the original one, while the second indicates the modified one, with the third operative clause being modified."

The Islamic Republic of Pakistan agrees with the logic of the USA's argument, and approves of their amendment. As such we vote YES on this proposal.

The Soviet Union will not support this without the approval of the United Arab Republic beforehand. Measures need to be taken to include the Islamic World, i.e. primarily what many call the "Middle East", into this proposal. As the region forms part of both Asia and Africa, yet is a minority part of each continent, their representation must be ensured.

Having abandoned a planed referendum on the subject only eight days before it occured, and having completely betrayed his own stated principles, de Gaulle can be seen as nothing but another imperialist warmonger. Also, what on earth is this "islamic state" you speak of?

The French Republic believes the matter to be settled and thus, again, votes no to the amended resolution. France's opposition to this resolution is another betrayal of the Algerian people and the population of current and former colonies the world over. However, we are pleased that both the USA and USSR are dedicated to bring an end to the neo-imperialism of France and other colonial empires, and we hope to work with these great nations to bring an end to exploitation and conquest.

The French Republic believes the matter to be settled and thus, again, votes no to the amended resolution. Once again, President Gaulle and his government refuse rights for their citizens in Algeria. But, while you continue your neo-imperial government, we are pleased that the major powers the the world (the US and USSR) have dedicated their time for a more peaceful world.
